Don't look to me for inspiration. I was considering a tan pair of dress
slacks (from Dress Barn) with a patterned sheer crepe 3/4 length sleeve
blouse (black, tan, brown, and cream). Gathering at mom's and my brother
will be there whom I haven't seen in 20 years. But.....it is supposed to be
80 degrees and rainy, thus very humid here tomorrow, so I may revise that to
something a lot less covering, like a dress with flat slip–ons (no
particular one in mind at this point). Cofarb, I'm sure you're weather
doesn't agree at all with my assessment!

Very casual here as it is just the two of us plus our doggies.
I was chuckling last week as the Vegas newspaper talked about turkey
preparations and related a few funny phone– in calls to the turkey hotline.
One caller wanted to know which part of the turkey goes into the oven first,
is is the feet?? lol
Another caller wanted to know if he should turn up the heat on the electric
blanket because it wasn't baking the turkey at all. The response was: keep the
electric blanket on the bed.

Be like Sara Moulton.... wear Chucks.
Now, you'll have to ask "what color?" won't you? There are some orange
ones that would match a pumpkin pie very well.
cofarb, who is looking for inspiration
A disposable sterile Graves or Pederson speculum would be dandy if
you're insisting on stuffing the inside of the turkey. <grin/duck>

I'll be wearing what I always wear:
* Chef's Revival faded indigo denim chef's jacket
* Gap VERY faded (mostly because it's...@#$%ing ancient) indigo baseball cap
* Gap #10––oh, how this cut is deeeeeeeply missed!––khaki carpenter jeans
* LL Bean athletic socks
* Polo luggage tan "faux" hiking boots (that is, they'd probably fall apart
were I ever insane enough to take them hiking–– which'd presuppose I'd be
insane enough to hike, but I digress––but they are monumentally comfortable for
the task of standing and cooking for about 6 hours straight)

I'm attending two celebrations tomorrow. First we'll have an early dinner with
a cousin of The Engineer (he's lost both his parents and has no siblings, so
these are the people he's closest to from his family). Then we'll stop in to
see some friends of mine, one of whom will have his dad down for dinner. I'm
anxious to see my friend as he lost his mom 2 weeks ago. After that we'll
drive over the Blue Ridge for the rest of the weekend. I'm not cooking this
year (apart from some corn pudding we'll make tonight) for the first time in
many years, and I'm feeling a little sad about that, but it'll also be nice to
be a guest.
The first dinner is casual (read: jeans) and the second is smart casual. I
was thinking about wearing this denim skirt I have––long, straight, with deep
slits on each side––but I never know what kind of hose to wear. Pnatyhose is
out since the denim dictates casual hose––tights––but I'm not sure if I like
the black tights with the blue skirt.
So I may just elect to go with my black knee length demin skirt which has a
black velvet and gold tapestry insert down the front and around the waist and a
black cotton johnny collar shirt or turtleneck. I won't really have a chance
to decide until tomorrow.

We're having Thanksgiving lunch with 80 nursing home residents and their
families. The nursing home has a great cook who does a wonderful job of
holiday meals, serving the traditional. We're going there instead of having
Mom here because she no longer assists in transfers and it's too dangerous to
try to lift her. For this I will probably wear a long black skirt and a
festive top, black shoes. It's an 'anything goes' type event, people will be
there in everything from shorts to Sunday best. With people from all walks of
life thrown together, it's a motley crew, and I've made great friends with some
of the residents and their families there.
Masochists that we are, we bought a small turkey to cook for the evening meal
at home, along with green beans, biscuits and salad.

The weather has cooled dramatically this morning after some rare morning

knee length black denim skirt, black velvet and gold tapestry insert down front

black cotton turtleneck
double length taupe tissue silk scarf with iridescent beading
black mid–heel Mary Janes
square diamond earrings in a filigree white gold setting (from the 1920s; my
paternal grandmother's)
usual diamond and sapphire rings
silver faced watch (elongated rounded rectangular face––like an old TV set)
with a row of rhinestones on both sides on a pale pink leather band
for outside: 3/4 length black single breasted all weather coat, faux fur
collar

Probably one of my black dresses, faux pearls and my black patent

The turkey breast goes in an oven bag, less mess. The messiest thing I
do is the deviled eggs, but I can do that this evening along with the
pie. Our whole Thanksgiving is designed for speed and ease which is
why I use Stove Top stuffing and a box of Kraft noodles with sauce and
don't do them from scratch.
So actually it's not much work except in the last half hour before the
turkey is done.

We will have one of our better wines, probably a Talley Rosemary's
Vineyard Pinot Noir. Yesterday's SF Chronicle wine section had a big
article on what the vitners drink for Thanksgiving dinner. Some prefer
big reds such as zinfandel or cabernet. Others like whites or sparkling
wine. The choices were as diverse as the wineries. I vote for what
tastes best for your own palate.

What wine does everyone prefer??
I bought Sterling Sauvignon Blanc to enjoy before and with dinner.
We're having a Sauvignon Blanc as well. :) My husband, his parents and
brother, brother's girlfriend, my cousin and her family are all visiting
this weekend. Today has been a busy day... I spent the morning cooking and
preparing part of the meal. Then we went to a local Thanksgiving parade.
Now, I'm back home to finish cooking. After dinner, we plan to go to a tree
lighting. My attire for today:
For cooking throughout the day–
Long sleeved white tee
Taupe cashmere lounge pants
Black slip–on yoga shoes (They're as comfortable as bare feet, but provide a
bit of track so I don't fall in the kitchen!)
For the parade:
Gray deep v shawl cardigan
Pink silk beaded cami underneath
Gray/pink tweed pants
Brown mid–heel knee length boots
Pink wool knee length "lady–like" coat
For dinner and the tree lighting:
White cashmere cardigan
Taupe cotton cami
Taupe/olive textured pants
Black round toe t–strap heels
Black satin finish knee length coat
I don't usually go through so many costume changes, but today was a special
day. Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I'm still thinking about this. I'm the chief cook (and turkey
gynecologist) so I guess I have to be practical... What are the other
poultry gyns going to wear?
cofarb, who is looking for inspiration
I will definitely wear a lovely apron from Williams Sonoma. Because the
kitchen is hot with all of the cooking I will more than likely wear a
long sleeve soft cotton shirt from Anthropologie (red or green are the
choices) and jeans for the morning plus Karen Neuberger slipper socks so
I can slip and slide on the tile floor. About 20 minutes before the
meal is served I'll change into a sweater and slacks, put on earrings
and say I am dressed.
Audrey
Well, I suspect that I'll feel more like a turkey proctologist than a
gynecologist but ... whatever.
I've always wished that our family had a tradition of *dressing* for
holidays, but I'm certain that One will be wearing track pants and a
baseball jersey, and I'll be lucky to convince DH to wear jeans
instead of his ratty shorts, and a polo shirt instead of his undertee.
Mom will be wearing a pair of slacks and a heavy sweater (because,
while the rest of us will be hot, she'll be freezing); Dad will be in
jeans and a polo shirt. In keeping with their style of dress, I'll
probably wear a pair of stretch boot cut jeans (faded wash), grungy
tee shirt, and very fluffy socks to cook; change into a lime green
double–vee 3/4 sleeve tee shirt for dinner. I do own a truly hideous
apron, but One loves to wear it when he helps me cook, so I'll be on
my own.

I'll be in my L.L.Bean red flannel robe in bed, I think. Got suddenly sick
at work yesterday and just cancelled our plans for tomorrow as a result.
Never spent a Thanksgiving doing nothing before, but I can't risk giving

travel/eating/socializing that was planned. Best wishes to everyone else

DH and I will be going to the Thanksgiving buffet at our country club.

What a shame –– hope you get well soon!

Just the two of us. Wearing camel cord pants, a black tee and a black

Nontradish menu: fondue with shrimp, tuna, beef, mushrooms, garlic
bread and salad, plus the appropriate dips. Very easy prep and

A dark blue velvet tunic top matched with a blue velvet paisley long

Dark tights and shortish black leather boots (the skirt is almost

skirts are so long it does not matter. Short are more comfortable.
a blue crystal y necklace set in black metal, matching blue crystal
chandelier earrings and a matching bracelet. All by Givenchy Bijoux.

Our family dresses up for holidays unless you are cooking then I would
wear black comfy pants (jeans or similar) and a nice T shirt or

Xmas and will wear black pants and a red top but I will have some Xmas
earrings on such as Lunch at the Ritz.

Okay, I think I've decided:
Short black skirt;
Red Wolford bodysuit;
Red Wolford tights;
Black cropped cardigan––actually, even less sweater than "cropped"––maybe
almost a bolero; it's great on a vertically challenged person like me
because it doesn't hide my waistline (though, given the fact that it is
Thanksgiving, perhaps I *should* hide my waistline).
Black boiled wool slippers/clogs

Stevie, I like both. Maybe you'll have a gut sense for one over the other in
the morning.
I will be in the kitchen a bit but not at my house which makes it a little
perplexing. I will definitely don my W–S blue and white striped apron. But
underneath I am not sure. It will all be family or some sort or another and
I know that most of the guests will be dressed very casually. I plan to
bring pj's in case my cousin who recently trained in Thai massage wants to
practice on me while my stomach is still empty ;)
I will go casual on the bottom (either jeans or cords probably) with
something cute and maybe slightly dressy in texture on top. I am in between
sizes now and have barely any pants/skirts that fit. All but one pair of
pants need significant heels to work :( I don't really like changing for
dinner unless I've really gotten sweaty in the kitchen but that won't happen
tomorrow.
Smokey, hope you feel better.
Carol, I plan to have pinot noir. I had white with dinner tonight, a
chardonnay, and was thinking that it would be OK with turkey dinner. I think
it's mostly about what tastes good to you and the side dishes have a lot to
do with it, too.

64 degrees Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and if you are alone today or
hate your family come to my house! We have so much food and a huge
variety of beverages for our family of five. I had fun yesterday asking
the students I tutor about their TDays. The girl from Yemen expects 50
relatives at her house! When I asked where they would sleep, she said
they hadn't thought about that. Some are coming as far away as Buffalo,
NY. The common theme was everyone seemed to be making more than 1 pie
per person :)
It is almost 11 a.m. here and the bird has been cooking since 9 a.m.
One child has left to study at DH's office, and the other two are
preparing to help me with the cooking. Actually my son and I dual over
recipes and kitchen space. I am currently wearing
Anthropologie red cotton long sleeve shirt, buttons on left shoulder so
turtleneck fold into a collar
dark denim IM jeans
white fluffy Easy Spirit slippers
Ten to fifteen minutes before we dine I will change to
red cashmere Classiques Entier sweater with collar and three buttons
black lightweight wool Tahari slacks
black SW boots
gold hoops with pearl studs at the top, gold Seiko watch and gold
bracelet
We always take TDay family photos so we change at the last minute before
we dine
I hope everyone has a wonderful day. I am thankful for good health, a
fabulous family and the friendship of my friends IRL and here as well.
