These women deserved all these wonderful gifts. They are so delighted..what
a fun show and Oprah has chosen some great things. Love the Burberry parka.

I was in and out of the room while this was on, and didn't catch it all, so
don't know if there were many generally affordable items. Wasn't this show
originally meant to be a list of Oprah's favorite things that would be
suggestions for good Christmas gifts for her TV audience to give? Or am I
misinterpreting the purpose of the show? Much of what I saw would not be
within reach of the average Joe and average Josephine – a $700+ set of
bedsheets, a $500 purple faux alligator weekender from Dooney and Bourke. I
also saw a washer/dryer and a flat screen TV, but didn't catch the prices of
those. Did she have anything within reach of the average shopper?

Years ago this show did feature much more reasonably priced items. I
specifically remember slippers, pajamas, food items, and Philosophy gift
sets. It seems that the past few years Oprah has reached up into much more
expensive "favorite things" that can't be within reach of many shoppers. I
don't understand why she made this giant leap into the price range of Neptune
washers/dryers and flat screened tvs, but this audience was certainly thrilled.
Watching their reaction was such fun.

I thought EVERYONE was giving out $1500 washer/dryer sets for Christmas! ;)
I was going to watch it tonight, but now I don't need to. I am a pretty
generous gift giver, but this stuff is out of my range.

I much prefer to read the list here rather than have to endure watching the
show. I like to have a good time too (and of course receive presents!) but
those women go over the top with their hystrionics. Sorry if I offended any
afers who were actually there. In that case, congrats!

Did she have anything within reach of the average shopper?
Linda, that's what the Bourjois lipsticks were for. Those are cheap. :) She
did have a few things in the lower price range. The key lime cake, champagne
glasses and CD were all pretty cheap. There were a couple of gift
certificates, too. I LOVE getting those for Christmas! This years' list
wasn't as drool–worthy as past lists (IMO), but there was a wide selection
as far as price is concerned. I'm sure there's someone out there who wants a
washer/dryer combo or flat screen TV for Christmas. And some of giftees
might actually get them, so I didn't find them too outrageous.
Comments about the show: I enjoy this show every year. Watching the reaction
of the crowd is so much fun! The women from today's show deserved the gifts
they got. I'm happy Oprah chose to recognize teachers this year.

I forgot to mention that I loved the last outfit Oprah wore. The green satin

Mme Remy,
You didn't spoil it at all because I didn't go to the link and I quickly
skimmed the posts. I liked all of the clothes. I could handle a gift of
that Burberry jacket or the EF merino hoodie and pants. We all do many
similar gifts but at a lower end. Tea and tea sets make nice gifts but
they don't have to be the ones on Oprah's show. Many of us give
certificates for manicures, facials etc. just not a round trip for two
at a fabulous Tuscon resort. I laughed when I saw the leather fake croc
D&B travel bag. Is it not similar to the one I bought at B&BW for $35
that I'm giving my daughter? How many of us have ordered lipstick sets
from Sephora or other sites?
April, There is a class action suit against Maytag because of the mold
that forms in the gasket of the Neptune washers or at least in the
original model such as the one I have. Water stays inside the tub and
even though I try to dry it well every time I complete a load, there is
still some mold. I have had the gasket replaced twice. You're ok if you
don't get that Neptune combo.
This is the year Oprah is giving lavish gifts as seen with the car
giveaway on the first show. I think it is wonderful that she gets so
many companies to donate their goods and make so many audience members
happy. It's a wonderful fantasy. Why wasn't I there?

I don't quite get the purpose of letting us know what are her favorite
things.
Unless she has some sort of agreement going with the companies that
manufacture those products to donate part of the profits for sale of
those items to some charity, why would anyone care what Oprah's
favorite things are? (this from the perspective of someone who enjoys
an Oprah show here and there, and holds no ill wishes towards her)

I had thought it was to give gift ideas to the masses, maybe introduce a thing
or two that most people might be unaware of. But this last show looks like
she's going for the spectacle of giving away expensive stuff to the audience, a
PR move.
I also thought the suggestions would be for particulary high quality version of
everyday items. This proved wrong as I purchased two of the items she
suggested and they were both horrible. Two years ago I purchased the CD stereo
from Brookstone. It had horrible, tinny sound, and all I knew who'd bought it
returned it. I didn't however because the recipient, my daughter, didn't
actually set it up to use it until nearly a year after she received it.
The other disappointment was the 'cuddly' robe she suggested last year. It was
a stretchy, hot, polyester mess. I tried to give it to my sister, who refused
it, and I ended up leaving it behind at the hotel we were staying at. Smokey
stepped in with a suggestion for a bathrobe that I *love* (thanks, Smokey!),
and the robe Smokey recommended is the type thing I expect from Oprah.

I just had a visual of Oprah in a polyester robe (this surprises me as I would
expect her to have a soft, Turkish cotton spa–type bathrobe, but I believe you,
Linda) sipping champagne in one of those $36 glasses she featured in
yesterday's show.
Would this champagne glass cost more than last year's robe? LOL

I wish this was so! If I remember correctly, the robe was around $130. It
*was* soft to the touch, but was very uncomfortable to wear – felt hot and
synthetic. The robe Smokey recommended cost half that, although since then
they've started charging retail rather than wholesale. The last 'Smokey robe'
I bought was about $125. I love this robe so much that I got a second one in
case they became unavailable. The place I ordered it from supplies spas with
their robes, towels, etc.

Someone else may know more, but I think those are only available at
Takashimaya. Waterford sold similar glasses one, maybe two, years ago. I
don't know if they still carry them. Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) uses
them and she bought hers at Taka in Paris. If you find them elsewhere,
please post. I' really like to know alternative sources for them, too.

I think a lot of her viewers care a lot. They read the books she
recommends, they listen to her diet and exercise advice, and they go
out and buy the things she likes. I usually learn about one or two new
items when I watch the show. That mp3 or whatever it was player was
also listed in my newspaper yesterday as a good buy. I for one am
always looking for new ideas.

I think a lot of people look up to Oprah and honestly care about what she
thinks. I think it's interesting to see what her "picks" are each year but I
personally don't live my life by them. If it makes others happy, however, then
I say it's all good!

Speaking of Kerry, here is a quote someone sent me which applies to you know who:
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and
more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious
day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last
and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
