What I Bought Today

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
Stocking stuffers for the girls and me inspired by an article in today's
SF Chronicle style section Sephora has the large tins but I wanted the
mini set of three so I ordered from www.daviesgate.com
I checked www.beautycafe.com but Lisa no longer has Davies Gate. What I
did see on her site was a listing for about 30 CSP fragrances and a
special offer (cheap plug)

at Target:
–Vaseline
–light green w/darker green stripes thick slipper socks
–Merona poly/spandex black/light green/light blue deep v–neck wrap shirt w/a
tie on the lower left side
–Merona matching skirt, hits at knee and had a ruffly hem

scarf in several shades of blue and chocolate brown
coffee mug by a local Sedona artist

Great Tarjay find! Stopped in to pick up some amazingly inexpensive but nice
looking wrapping paper and walked out with that plus a darling casual
weekend jacket that was on sale.
It's the slightly fitted "puffer" style in hip length with detachable hood.
It is the shorter, not car coat length, with detachable hood as shown here
(but in the black you can't see the puffer detail):
http://tinyurl.com/4ay2d
Here it is in white so you can see the detail of the fitted yet puffer look
(this is a longer length than the style I bought):
http://tinyurl.com/4sk55
The color of mine is a pearlescent tan which is gorgeous and not on the
website. It was the last one in my size and they only had a few left in
stock. It is a good thing I stopped in today :) This is just what I need to
replace my other weekend jackets that are really too large for me now.

Yesterday, the clothing shopping did NOT end–
pair of eggplant colored Shoshanna cords from Christabelle (I don't recall
seeing these earlier?)
from Ross–
BCBG black, pink and white long tank dress with an almost "mod" look to it.
Sounds contradictory doesn't it? But the flow of a stripe each of pink and
white down around the gown gave it this look. Really pretty for 8.99 (marked
down from 69.99)
red Limited "flirty" dress– another steal at 6.99
black Rampage pointy toed heels for the party this weekend. These look
WONDERFUL with my gown and clearanced to 8.99.
and the major score for me simply b/c–
regular shafted black knee high boots. Who CARES about the brand (though I
believe it's Dolci or something like that?)– the big deal is that I have never
ever been able to wear normal width in the shaft knee high boots even with the
50# I've lost and even when I was a similar weight YEARS ago and still had
overly thick calves. I try a pair on almost every week and it never happens.
Until this week. My son watched as I almost cried over it. I couldn't help
but pick these up. 2.5 inch heels, $20.
Oh yes, what a day for bargains.

At Chico's (I should just move in there) a white scoop neck cotton t–shirt
top and a kiwi green cotton twill short casual jacket with metal buttons. The
display had this paired with the t–shirt and a scarf, so my next shopping trip
will be to find a scarf as an accessory. I didn't care for the colors in the
scarf on the display, but loved the idea.

I placed an order with Chico's a couple of days ago, from their Getaway
catalog. A grey zip top hoodie jacket with a matching tank top that has a
black design on it. To get it up to the $100 so I could use the coupon, I also
ordered a watch with a wide black band. I don't generally like Chico's watches
as the faces of them look cheap, but this was very inexpensive once the coupon
was applied and it'll make a good casual watch.

I've been to that store – it's larger than most Chico's. If I recall, there
are two more Chico's on Sanibel, I suppose thriving on tourist shoppers as it's
a small geographic area. When Chico's first started out, they had a distinct
style, cotton knit separates and big heavy belts to be worn loosely on the hip.
The clothes were comfortable and stylish, good quality, and reasonably priced.
Although I still like some of their offerings, they've lost their direction
and have split off in to a very watered down identity since then. The glue
that seems to hold their style together now is the travel fabric line. When I
venture out of the travel fabric line, I'm very careful as many of their
garments are cheap imports that don't hold up in the wash. I wish Chico's
would at least take part of it's inventory back to it's roots.

I love Chico's necklaces but I stay away from their bracelets, especially the
elasticized ones. I've broken several of them trying them on, gently, in the

Zappos shoe sale spree ahead. Unless you don't like shoes sales, please
look away. :) If you do like shoe sales, Zappos has *a lot* of shoes on
sale now and the shipping's free. (16 pages of 99 per page on sandals
alone!)
Thanks to a reminder from Jamie about how soft Clarks were, and in
anticipation of needing some soft and comfy slides in the upcoming
months, I purchased two pair from Zappos that were on sale. I purchased
them in a color that's called new bluebut it looks like dark navy to me.

Mephistos in tan suede {a warm tone} (also on sale at 59% off) and in
camel suede {a cooler tone} at 61% off. These will be my first Mephistos
and they looked like a *great* deal. I hope they fit. I went up a half
size to an 8, but couldn't decide on the color so I'll try both. I can
always return them if they don't fit.

(in my own size). They were 58% off for $26.90 each.

Today turned out to be a really good shopping day.
From Ann Taylor:
A silk chiffon short sleeve v–neck blouse (plum/pink/black) PXS to wear with
jeans. It never occurred to me that I would even find something like this at
Ann Taylor. It's hard to describe but exactly the kind of sexy little top I've
been looking for. Marked down from $70 to $30. If only I could find more.
I also managed to find the turquoise cashmere sweater with boat neck and 3/4
sleeves that I wanted earlier in the season (but couldn't find in my size).
There it was in all its glory, a PXS marked down to $30!
Then, I headed over to Nordstrom with a pair of Seven jeans that needed to be
altered and ended up picking up the leather studded satchel in hot pink. It
looked really good with the Burberry scarf I was wearing, and I realized it was
about time that I jumped on the colored bag bandwagon.
Finally, I stopped into Origins to buy a replacement of the Clear Improvement
charcoal mask and Sephora to pick up a sample of DDF Ultra Lite Oil Free
Moisturizing Dew.

Help me decide!
This is a "what should I buy today" post. I love the idea of a white nylon
bag for the resort and spring season this year. It fits with my personal
style and will work with my wardrobe. But which one should I buy? Both are
low priced and I won't quibble over price here; I just can't decide which
one I will get. (This is another case of a concept being done slightly
differently by two Gap, Inc lines. )
ON version
http://tinyurl.com/6fwjy
Has a zipper closure which the other version doesn't have. Is more E–W in
shape.
Banana version
http://tinyurl.com/58skc
This has a magnet closure at the top rather than a zipper. It is a longer
design and on my more petitie body it hangs down to about my hip IIRC and
I'm not sure I like that. The design of the inside pocket and phone/PDA
holder is great.
I think I like the look of the Banana version better but IRL the ON could be
more functional. Help me decide.

The day before Xmas, from Express:
*a metallic champagne–gold leather handbag with two buckles down the front.
It has short handles, but just enough that I can fit it over my shoulder if
I'm not wearing something bulky. I can't believe I spent $140 on an Express
bag, but I just could not resist. (I justify that it's not a bad deal if I
compare it to the $200+ similar bags I lust after at the local boutiques.)
The leather is wonderfully soft and it really is a fabulous bag that I can
wear through springtime. The SA was jealous since she badly wants that bag.
*ivory cashmere blend crewneck cardigan with rhinestone/crystal buttons and
sequins scattered around the upper half and ribbon material threaded along
the "collar". This was a sweater I have wanted since November and it was
finally on sale 50% off!! The original price was $88.00 and I didn't want
to spend that much on something I wouldn't wear often.
Two days after Xmas, from Old Navy:
*reversible boatneck sweater in a sheer medium pink on one side and a pale
pink on the other – so cute!
*black C&C knockoff boatneck 3/4 sleeve tee
*deep pink v–neck fleece – on sale for only $7.99!
*black zip up fleece jacket with pink zipper detail – on sale for $15.99.
Yesterday, from Sephora:
*Urban Decay Marshmallow powder – I love the scent and I have wanted it for
awhile.
I was bummed they were sold out of the delicious Jacqua Girls Buttercream
lotion – it is absolutely the best buttercream I have smelled. YUM! You
are right about this scent, Heather! (The spray oil doesn't smell as strong
as the lotion, BTW). I have to order this online, of course.

The total for this was less than the original cost of the swing pack alone.

Claire,
I may not be much help because I prefer different features of both bags. I
like the shape & size of the ON bag, but I don't like the plastic tabs or the
end pockets. And the strap is rather big & chunky.
The Banana Republic bag looks similar to a Prada bag I saw on Ashford.com that
retails for $550. And I think the quality will be a bit better – also, the
price, especially for BR is still very affordable. But if it's too big for
your frame, then that answers that!
Maybe there's another one out there that's perfect for you. The KMS bag (a la
Trilby jacket) from Target is really, really cute for only $25.
Good luck and please let us know which one you pick! (btw, my white leather
bag from last season was such an amazingly versatile and gorgeous bag that I
will probably get another white bag this year as well! – possibly the KMS one,
if I can find it!)

Claire,
I may not be much help because I prefer different features of both bags.
I
like the shape & size of the ON bag, but I don't like the plastic tabs or
the
end pockets. And the strap is rather big & chunky.
The Banana Republic bag looks similar to a Prada bag I saw on Ashford.com
that
retails for $550. And I think the quality will be a bit better – also,
the
price, especially for BR is still very affordable. But if it's too big
for
your frame, then that answers that!
Maybe there's another one out there that's perfect for you. The KMS bag
(a la
Trilby jacket) from Target is really, really cute for only $25.
Good luck and please let us know which one you pick! (btw, my white
leather
bag from last season was such an amazingly versatile and gorgeous bag that
I
will probably get another white bag this year as well! – possibly the KMS
one,
if I can find it!)

I
one,
How did I miss the KMS bag? Is it from this season? If so, can someone post

I keep hoping it will show up on the Target website, but no luck so far!
It is indeed from this season. The Target that's only sort of close to
me has had them for at least a week, but the Target that's really close
to me just got them this week.
The KMS bag (woo! I have my own bag!) is a Mossimo large white pebbled
faux leather tote with silver hardware. It also comes in lavender and
green but the white is prettiest, IMNSHO. There are two flap pockets on
the front that close with little twist locks, a horizontal zipper above
the pockets, and two side flap pockets that close with velcro. It has a
"hidden" zippered closure as well, and cute rivet/ring details where the
strap attaches to the bag. It sort of looks like a cross between the MJ
Venetia and Stella bags, but huge. The handles are like the Venetia but
just a bit longer so you can put it on your shoulder. The handle
attachments look just like the Venetia. Below the handle attachments,
the front of the bag is Stella–esque but with twist locks instead of
push locks. And this thing is only $24.99!
While I firmly believe everyone needs this bag for spring, it might be a
bit larger than you're looking for, Claire. I mean, I prefer large bags
but I probably won't carry this every day. That being said, I think
you're right that the ON bag would be more practical for daily use,
although I really like the clean lines of the BR bag!

I'll bop over today or Friday to see it. Historically I carry larger bags
but I've tried over the years to lighten the load and shrink my bag size in
order to be kind to my shoulder. Even still, I tend to carry larger bags
than many of my friends. I like to be able to carry a water bottle and to
throw a newspaper, the day's misc purchases from the drugstore, a top, etc.

I got the white Old Navy bag instead of the Banana style and am very happy
with it. It's function, cute, and it's fresh. The bag looks nice in black,
too, though I am simply tired of black thin nylon bags. It's got internal
side pockets for my PDA and flipfone which I didn't realize before I began
using it.
Still need to take a peek at the KMS bag and I cannot find the washed
leather bags at Gap yet. I'm thinking I might like the Gap bag though I
don't need it.

I was so sad when the salesperson said they only had a size 6 and 8
available, and since I wear an 8.5, I didn't think the 8 would work (I
usually have to wear an 8.5 or 9 in VS). She convinced me to try them,

Not yet. Last time, they did "spread" a little, enough to make me more
comfortable in shoes that were already stretched out or shoes a 1/2 size
up.
The real challenge will be to find sandals/summery shoes that will be
comfy, safe AND stylish. I better start my quest now!

I think I like the look of the Banana version better but IRL the ON could
be
more functional. Help me decide.

I like the Old Navy one better. The BR version, although more unusual

Claire,
I like the first more compact version. Both are attractive, though, and I
doubt you'll go wrong. I think the shorter strap will stand you in better
stead in the long run and the first bag is rolled into a "shorter" (body

Actually, last night I finally went to BBW's sale. I had avoided it until
now but a GF came over and the children were having their end–of–the–night
blowout behaviour, so we went to get away and browse.
3 small antibacterial hand foams for DS1 in Bananarama Ding Dong, Double
Bubble Berry, and Great Grapelicious
1 small antibacterial "moisturizing" hand gel for MIL
Am I the only one who has trouble with BBW always trying to charge me the
wrong prices on sale items?? I remember that I had to talk to them last
year and last night was the same. The above items (all regularly marked
$4–which I wouldn't have normally paid) were in one of those glass tubs on a
table with a HUGE can't miss sign above that said "Antibacterial line, 4
items for $10; individual items regular price". I only wanted a couple, but
let me think, $8 for 2 or $10 for 4. Even my husband, who asks if it's
really a deal if they make you purchase more than you need, said "Let me
think!" So the only reason I bought 4 was to complete the limit for $10.
When I got to the register, I noticed that I'd been charged $3 each. Don't
ask. I didn't know where the $3 came from either. When I questioned the
price and pointed to the table and sign, I was told by the manager "Oh, that
sign says selected items but you can have it for that anyway." Don't do me
any favors. The sign did not say "selected items" (I rechecked on the way
out). It was HUGE, hanging over the whole table, and impossible to miss. I
wonder how that made me think that everything on that table was included?!
As I was leaving, I noticed another table next to it that had more kid foams
and hand gels that had a huge sign – $3. So there were tubs on both tables
with three different prices, the regular price ($4), a sale price ($3), and
another sale price ($2.50). O.K. We're only talking about $2 here but I am
adamant about paying the sale prices advertised. They get enough of my
money the normal way; they better stick to their sale prices! Anyway, I
needed that extra $2 to pad my next purchases!
Bath salts in Orange Ginger $6
Tutti Dolci lip gloss in Chocolate Fondue $10 (ack!) Certainly nothing from
this line was on sale. At prices like this for lip gloss, I probably won't
ever purchase it again.

Non–AF related (other than to decorators here)
Yesterday my DH picked up two tapestry pillow covers that I had framed for
hanging in my living room. They are fabulous medieval looking tapestry
cases that are about 14 inches square. The framer did an excellent job with
3 inch wide black velvet matting and I picked a medium (pecan describes it
best) twisted wood frame for both. When DH brought them home, I thought he
was going to kick his heels up! He knew that they had been prohibitively
expensive to have custom matted and framed, but he was hugely impressed (as
was I)! They are breathtaking! I love these cases that I picked up in
Chartres, France for my birthday while visiting a few years ago. I don't
really have a use for them as pillow covers but looking at them makes me
happy and I had decided to permanently mount them for my viewing pleasure!!
The finished "pictures" measure about 3' X 3' each. At the same time, I
purchased a wall tapestry that measures 5' X 5'. I've yet to hang it in my
entry hall since I lost part of the mounting hardware in the move (I'm
embarassed to say over 1 1/2 years ago). Yes, when we moved in I was 8
months pregnant and have really been busy since with DS1 and DS2. I still
have tons of boxes in my garage that haven't even been opened (thank
goodness my garage encompasses a whole lower level). But I cannot find both
of the dowels that go with the rod for the tapestry and I'm holding out on
purchasing new because I know I'll find the other piece just as soon as I
do. Now that I think about it, I also have a small 2' X 3' Belgian tapestry
that I haven't re–hung because I'm missing a piece for that as well. Hmmm.
They must be together somewhere.
Anyway, the expense of the framing has curtailed most of my beauty and
fashion purchases for now. It's worth it.

Priscilla, what kind of outfit are you thinking of wearing the pumps
with?
I just bought a pair of RLL ponyhair leopard print ankle boots at
Marshall's, and while they are beautiful (had to have them) they are so
far out of my usual style (Eddie Bauer and Talbots) that I can only
envision feeling comfortable in a black sweater and black pants with
just the tips of the boots peeking out. I would love to have some
other options, ones that don't make me feel like Mrs. Robinson
however.
thanks

Sorry about the previous post. It was my first time posting from
google.
I have a pair of leopard print boots from Via Spiga with solid black
pointy toes and high black heels. I've worn them with a black sweater
and black pants and have also worn them with a black sweater and jeans.
They looked good either way. You could probably also wear them with a
brown or camel pantsuit (depending on the color of the boots).
As long as you keep the rest of the outfit simple and keep the focus on
the boots, you won't come off as "Mrs. Robinson."

Actually, last weekend:
A pair of the cutest calf–length boots by Clarks. They're the
"Penelope" style in black leather with an appliqued olive and brown
flower on the side. They're to replace my favourite everyday black
boots that are pretty much done–for and won't last another winter. I
figured I should get next year's fall/winter boots now while they're
on sale.
Here's a picture http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7167814.html
Oh, and not fashion–related but I got a new duvet cover yesterday.
It's the Regal Home Classico Jacquard Chenille Duvet on clearance at
Linens 'n Things. It's a gorgeous heavy, rich–looking tapestry–like
material in beige with a deep red, purple, and green pattern. This is
it here.
http://makeashorterlink.com/?A56D1547A
I'm going to do the rest of the pillows, curtains, sheets, etc. in the
red and beige shades in the duvet cover.

I keep all of my bags organized in my walk–in closet on shelves. All of the
bags I purchase come with dust bags, and in the case of the LVs, I will
always ask for the hard gift box as well for storage purposes. It makes it
a lot easier to store, and looks nice and neat. I keep my bags organized
according to "type"––evening purses, totes, everyday handbags, etc. Each
section of the shelf is dedicated to a particular type of bag so I know
where to look. There is also a separate area for small accessories like
wallets, keychains, belts, etc.
The most important thing to me is to make sure that my bags are all visible
and not hiding behind one another. I have a separate closet in another
bedroom that is strictly for bags "out of current rotation" so that the ones
I'm actively using can stay in the walk–in closet, where they are easy to
reach for when I'm getting dressed for the day. I recently Polaroid–ed my
shoes so that a photo of the particular style is seen on the outside of the
box. I may end up doing this with the bags too.

Not TYFM jeans, but a TYFM haircut. I kept the same style as my last
cut––a beveled bob––but this time my stylist cut round layers instead
of choppy layers into it. It's also shorter than last time around.
I love it.

Over the past month or so, to add to the madness that is my handbag
collection:
*Botkier Holster in Chocolate leather
*LV Monogram Cerises Speedy 25
*LV Monogram Cerises Key Cles
*LV Monogram Cerises Compact Zip Wallet
*LV Panda pouchette
*LV Panda Porte Clefs (keychain/pouchette extender)
*LV Monogram Canvas Florentine Clutch
*LV Snap Button Belt
*LV Mongram Canvas Viva–cite PM
I'm especially excited about the LV Cherries and Panda styles since I'm just
a sucker for the Marc Jacobs/Takashi Murakami joint venture (I know these
are really YMMV, but they've really grown on me). I jumped on the
Multicolore trend late (after the retail prices had jumped), and missed the
Cherry Blossom line (REALLY wanted the Retro bag), so this time around I
decided to snap up what I wanted right away, instead of waiting until later.
Luckily, my personal shopper at LV had put them away for me and gave me a
call as soon as they came in!
I'm also really happy with the two other bags. The Viva–cite PM is
basically a utility/city bag––perfect for travel with a small outside snap
pocket. The Florentine clutch is just a simple clutch with belt loops in
the back so you can either carry it on its own or wear it as a waist bag. I
was a bit peeved that you actually have to buy the belt separately, but I
suppose I'm not all that surprised. Both of these styles can be seen on
eluxury.com. The Cherries and Panda are not on eluxury, but there are quite
a few auctions on ebay already.
Even with all the bags in my collection, I've really gotten a suprising
amount of mileage out of my black leather Botkier Medium Trigger (waves to
Laurie0512!). I love the softness of the leather, the pockets, and just the
fact that it's a fun and functional bag. In fact, one of the other
attorneys in the office mentioned, "Wow! You must really like that bag
because I think that's the longest I've ever seen you carry one bag without
switching to another!" Hahaha!
Because I've been so enamored with the Botkier Trigger, I decided to go for
something a little bigger, but still in the same family. The Holster is
larger, but has the same basic concept with pockets and organization. I've
been looking for a nice deep chocolate brown bag, and this Botkier seems to
fit the bill. I got this one from activeendeavors.com with the discount
code, so I'm waiting for it to arrive.
With the recent handbag explosion, I spent the long weekend just
re–organizing my closet. A fun and relaxing way to pass the time! :)

*Minnetonka Moccasins in Brown with beads on them (loving these too! So

sparkly glitter (think Legally Blonde–esque)
*3 silver ankle bracelets (Claires)
*rainbow flip flops (Tarjay)

At Old Navy, too:
*black l/s easy fit tee on sale for just under $7 (all the l/s sleeve easy
fits left were marked down)
*black yoga tank on promotion at $9 (reg price $12)
The yoga tanks came in came in red, pink, two blues, light gray and white. I
tried on a number of colors but went for the black. Too funny. Hides more, I
guess.
Cary, I have one of the striped polos (pink, white, green) and I think yours
would look cute paired with the tie belt. That tie belt would also look
great with so many things. I almost got one myself. I also have the flat
leather sandals (the braided leather ones) in turquoise. But I didn't get
those on sale. I wanted them so badly I couldn't wait and risk them selling
out in my size!
I am thinking about the cropped, tie front cardigan style tops. I think
they'd look cute with all sorts of jeans/trousers and tee pairings for
spring and even summer. The color I wanted is not in stock in my size at
either of the stores I shop, though.

Went back to Walgreens and purchased the Jessica Simpson Dessert Treats
Butterscotch Toffee shimmer fragrance. YUM! Smells exactly as named and
lasts all day on me. (I tried it a couple of times prior to the purchase.)
I like the Dessert Treats line better than her higher end stuff in general,
though these aren't low end either. They are available at Sephora too.
