Permanent Makeup

merr...@webtv.net
I think there have been threads in here before on permanent makeup (i.e.
eyeliner, brows, etc.) but as a lurker I probably skipped over them.
A few months ago i got the permanent eyeliner and I absolutely love it!!
I was wondering if others had it done and if they like it or not. And
is there anyone who has had their lips done? I'm semi interested but so
afraid I won't pick the right lip color and hate it in the end. But for
now, the eyeliner is the best thing I have done for myself in a long
time.
Would love to hear any pros or cons of this subject! Thanks for your
time.

oops!! P.S.
does anybody know where you can find "ear threads" or have any
experience in using them?
ro...@marigny.UUCP (Robyn)
i have an acquaintance who used to be a perm makeup artist.
i'm sure if you have specific questions, i can relay them to her,
and post answers back here.

I've had my eyes done about 4 years ago and last year I had my
eyebrows done. Some of the best money I have ever spent!!
One day I would like to have my lips done, but that will be awhile.
The place here offers, lipliner, 'blush' color for the lips or full
lip color. Why not just try the blush color for your lips? It will
probably look very natural and give some color to your face.
Let us know what you decide!
merr...@webtv.net
blush color. thanks! i didn't think of that! i was worried if i chose
the lip color i usually use it would look different once it was actually
there permanently. I really need to go talk to her again.
i keep wondering if doing the entire lips would make them sensitive in
the longrun or desensitize ?
glad you like your eyes/brows. isn't it wonderful to know regardless of
what you do you still look good! if you get your lips done, please post
it here. i keep thinking i might do mine during the holidays but then
again early spring sounds good for the summertime.
thanks!

I would love to have my eyebrows done. I overplucked when I was younger and
that combined with getting older has ruined the shape and fullness of my
eyebrows. On top of that, I am a natural blonde with naturally dark eyebrows,
blacker than brown yet not quite black. Would you describe how your eyebrows
were done, where, and the cost, please?

Here's a few cons on the perm. make–up situation. FDA does have a warning
on specific dyes
http://www.lucire.com/2004a/0703ll0.shtml
this story made national headlines and there is now a class action lawsuit
pending against the mgf of the dyes/pigments as well as serious
investigations by the FDA on users who have had serious allergic reactions.
Better to be forewarned and forearmed to make sure you have the best
possible result if you are going to do this

Since this site you provided would not load after 10 minutes I cannot
make a statement on this article. As I stated in my previous post, I
had my first permanent makeup done 4 years ago. No allergic reaction
and eyebrows done last year. Again, no allergic reaction. I'm sure
if the original poster had had any reaction, she would have posted
them here. I'm allergic to penicillin, but I haven't asked the FDA to
investigate. Many proceedures, medications, and injections can cause
allergic reactions. Also, poor hygiene and not following the regimen
recommended after the tattooing can cause reactions/infections.

Maria,
Thank you so much for your input!! yes i needed to hear te pros and
cons of it all. i will admit the eyeliner i had done was
"uncomfortable" but then again one eye was not bad since it was more
numb than the first. and i looked like i had had a good cry for a few
days!
knowing me i think i will probably end up having it done. and i want to
thank stevie for pointing out the problems that could arise. the lady
who did my eyeliner also informed me that i should tell physicians if i
have an MRI done as having this could mess up test results (who would
that thought!?)
thanks again for input

" HI Joan
well the site loaded for me. I saw the rough article before it posted. There
is a company that has a specific dye color that is causing serious harm> >

here's some more info

while in general it's safe, from what I gather many of the allergic
reactions have been to ONE particular mgf....... not all
and it's also a case of YMMV
just a heads up and cautionary situation

Some of the photos on that article were quite horrific.
I think like with any treatment where you are applying chemicals
directly to your skin you should do an allergy test ahead of the
procedure to determine if you're indeed allergic. I never even though
of doing this before my permanent makeup application, I guess I was
just lucky I'm not allergic to the ink that was used in my procedure.
Regarding the experience itself, I had my lips lined once about five
years ago. I was so afraid to get a color that would look too dark on
my lips that I ended up going with a very natural color––it was so
natural you could hardly see it.
My experience was very painful. Turns out lip lining is the most
painful of the permanent makeup procedures. Had I known ahead of time
how painful it would be I probably would not have done it. But after
all the pain the results were quite nice. My only complaint was not
having picked a more noticeable color. After about three years it
faded away naturally. The technician who did it told me that
touch–ups are even more painful than the original application so I
never went back for the touch–up.
I have a friend who did her brows and had her eyes lined at a
different place and her results were fine. She said there was
practically no pain involved in her experience.
In my case, for a couple of days after the procedure I had Angelina
Jolie–like lips and then I did develop a bit of a scab in the area
that was tattooed which after about a week's time went back to normal.
I used some kind of aloe cream in my lips (not medicated) for that
whole week which, I think, helped to heal my lips faster. During the
procedure a cream was used to numb the pain which in my case didn't
help much as I still could feel the needle. The asthetician I used
offers a follow up consultation about 2 weeks after the procedure to
check that the lining is even and so she can do touch–ups as needed.
All in all I would say it's worth it.
In spite of the pain, I think I would probably do my lips again––but
this time around I would likely make sure the aesthetician uses a
stronger numbing cream and I would pick a more lively color.
