where do you all shop for reasonably priced quality underwear?

caro...@fourteen4.net (Carolee Flatley)
You were all very very helpful with my last question, so hopefully you
can help me with a new one! I'm in need of underwear! Bras, panties
and tights specifically, maybe a slip or two. I'm looking for a
reasonable price (no more than or close to $40 a piece for bras and
slips, $20 for panties and tights) with great quality. I've not been
a fan of Victoria's Secret, I don't like the fit or quality. I'm
looking for classy pieces, not "sexy" ones. Any suggestions for
brands, stores or websites is greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

If you have plenty of time and patience, I would suggest going to Marshall's
or TJ Maxx. You may find some incredible deals there––Wacoal and other very
expensive brands for 25% of their original tagged prices. However, you
really need a lot of time to sift through the selection. I happen to be a
fan of one particular VS bra, though, the Body by Victoria No–Wire bra. I
wash them on the delicate cycle and then dry on top of my dryer (with a
tennis ball in each cup!), and I think they hold up pretty well. They'd
probably last forever if I washed them by hand. I've tried a lot of other
VS bras––I hate underwires––and none have been as comfortable as the no
wire. But it's definitely a matter of individual taste.
In general, major department stores run a lot of sales on bras. Once you
find "your" bra, you should keep an eye open for "2 for 1" and other
specials.
I always check Marshall's for tights and pantyhose, too. Check the sale
bins first, and stock up so you never have to pay full price for these
things.

Once you find "your" bra you should buy 6 of them because they'll surely
be discontinued within a year.

I stock up during department store sales, and combine with manufacturer
rebate offers and frequent–purchaser cards. I also shop at brand
outlets (Leggs–Hanes–Bali) from time to time.

Thanks so much for the reply! I'll definitely check out Marshall's.
There's one just down the road from where I live and I was going to check
there for some skirts anyway.
It must seem weird for me to suddenly have all of these questions, but I
just finally got a good paying job that has a rather strict business casual
dress code. I'm trying to build myself a nice wardrobe for work that I can
accessorize for the weekends. I'm hoping a combination of alt.fashion and
The Lucky Shopping Manual will get me there with grace, ease and a little
extra cash in my pocket (that I plan to sink into a few Coach bags)!

Just wanted to add that you should keep your eyes peeled for Coach and other
good purses when you are at Marshall's looking for undies. I've gotten some
of my best deals on handbags, including Coach, at Marshall's. Try to figure
out when they put out the new stuff (experienced a.f.ers seem to concur that
Wednesdays are the best at Marshall's and TJ Maxx), and learn to cruise
quickly for the items that are snatched up quickly––like marked down Coach
and Dooney & Bourke bags.

I had no idea that Marshall's carried Coach! I'm from out east where I
never saw a Marshall's. Now I'm in San Diego (well, North County) and
there's one about two exits down from where I lived. There's also a Circuit
City and a B&N in the same plaza so I can scoot my boyfriend along while I
look and try things on (though, he'll probably look for awhile as well).
I'm hoping to get myself a wristlet to carry as an every day bag (I carry
very little with me), which I may just pay full price for since I may make
that my "trendy" bag. I'm looking for another shoulder–style one in black
that I can use for work (just tossing the wristlet inside for work). We'll
see if they have anything that meets my needs.
Thanks for the tip on Wednesday. I was considering checking it out next
weekend, forgetting that the weekend after Thanksgiving is quite possibly my
least favorite shopping weekend all year. Thanksgiving snuck up on me (now
what do I make?!?). I'll probably head over the Wed after then. I'll be
sure to post what I pick up and maybe link to some pictures since the boy
got a digital camera for his birthday that I haven't yet used properly.
