Handbag charms

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
Has anyone bought them? I've seen the ones by Prada and Juicy and now
Jay Strongwater and others are jumping on the bandwagon for another 2004
trend. They are currently very pricey but I'm sure we'll all see them
at Claire's in the spring.

So far I've only seen them in catalogs. This is a trend I'll resist
until it's a bit more widespread. I see so many elementary school kids'
backpacks decked out with multiple keychains and other ornaments. I
figure if I buy a Prada handbag charm, everyone will think it's a Happy
Meal toy I stole from my daughter. ;)

I saw the juicy charms at Bloomies the other day and they are good
quality and cute but I am not sure how long that they would be in

I saw the Prada and other charms at Neiman Marcus. I agree with
Priscilla about the takeoff on the kids who collect key chains. When my
youngest child (now a third year college student) was a high school
freshman her backpack key chains weighed more than her books. I think
those who market items to the trendies would like this to last a long
time but the price of one charm is equal to that of a decent handbag.
There was a Tiki god charm I saw in a catalogue yesterday that would be
a great conversation piece but the charms were so jumbled together it
was hard to see what each one looked like individually.

when i was in paris last month, i went to the flea market at clignancourt and
there was a shop that sold some handbag charms and other items (necklaces, for
example) that are similar to the items prada is selling now but for a lot less
money. french women are very smart about making their own, more economical yet
still stylish versions of many trends.

I saw the Prada robots – love 'em only if they came in nonleather. I saw some
Coach ones last week at Macy's.

I think my Coach key chain charms are enough charms for an, uh, adult! Please
let me not fall prey to another charm addiction....

I just bought DD #2 a handbag that came with charms, you can take them
off and change them.
Really cute, she'll love it.
When the trend goes away, she can remove them and have a nice plain bag.

I'm going to add some make up in the pocket, and a gift cert in the
zippered pocket, before I send it to her. I think she'll be happy.

To revive an erstwhile thread...
I am enamored of a couple of Prada tricks (regardless of how trendy or
not they are at the moment)...for example, the pink robot with the red
heart at Neiman Marcus. Would it be an unforgivable faux pas to wear
one on a non–Prada bag? I have a simple red Furla bag that I carry
often that happens to have these random leather loops on each
end...they would be perfect for clipping a charm or charms on. I am
thinking it may be OK because the word Prada on the tricks is probably
too small for the casual observer to read.
thanks for any opinions!

I got a charm attached to a ring from a lookbook at one of these events I
go to.. It's burnished brass dragonfly. I was going to put it on my
keyring. I think I will put it on my handbag instead
also.. last Sept they were handing out these cute ugly dog (non sequiter I
know but they are so cute because they are so ugly) and Fashiondish put one
on her bag. my dog recognized it immediately as one that resembled a toy
that I had given him

Gawd, no, I think it would be cute! JMHO, but I want to do a similar
thing with a pink tote I just got from Tarjay. It has double straps
that are attached to the tote w/ large silver rings that would be
perfect to hang a charm from. I'm looking for a Brighton keyring w/ a
pink stone to use as a charm. When the trend goes out, I'll turn the
charm back into a keyring again.
