Frye Boots sizing and fit question

acertaing...@aol.comforzevon (Acertaingirl)
Just got a pair of Frye Campus boots in my regular size. They feel big on me
with regular socks, but when I put on heavy socks, they feel fine. My dilemma,
should I return them for a smaller size (which may end up being too small), or
just wear them with heavier socks? My main concern is that I will always be too
hot with those socks under boots. Does anyone else have experience with these
boots and what is your opinion on the sizing – do they run large or is it my
freakish feet?

I think they run large...wide...generous...
Not all thick socks are hot, so maybe you can find some which are merely
cushiony without being like wool camping socks? Have you tried walking
around inside wearing the boots with the socks? Also, you might try a comfy
inner sole (like a Dr. Scholl's) and then a very thin sock. Frye boots are
not particularly soft or flexible; I wouldn't want to wear them without
socks of some sort. (Were you originally planning to do that?)

I dug up some heavy cotton socks which I will try with them. I wore a
semi–heavy pair yesterday and went out food shopping. Not too bad of a
fit, but boy did my feet hurt afterwards! I have gotten so used to my
Birkenstocks that I forgot what hurting feet feel like. There's no way
I could size down half a size, so I'll just make the heavy sock idea
work, since I love these boots and won't be able to part with them (I
even bought new longer inseam jeans to wear with them!!). I'm going to
purchase the Birkenstock blue insoles to put inside, that will take up
some of the slippage in the heel – what we don't do for our shoe
obsessions huh??

One more recommendation: don't wear cotton socks. The softest socks are one
tat contain orlon and other similar materials. I know that cotton sounds
like it should be best, but take my word for it. If you feel like
"investing" check out some other a.f. threads recently about Hanes World's
Softest Socks. (Look on www.hanesplace.com ) Even among these, they are
not all the same; the crew style are thicker than the knee highs and 1/4
tops. These are my running socks. They are really comfy and have gone a
long way toward making stiff boots bearable.

BTD: It depends on what width they are. Some of their boots are all medium
width. For example, I can wear an 11 wide or a 12 medium (women's) but to
the best of my knowledge Frye doesn't make the latter. I have a pair of 10 &
1/2 D width Frye Western style boots (men's) and can't wear them with heavy
socks.
The problem I have, which seems the same with most boots, is that there
isn't enough space for my arch.

No cotton....check. Hanesplace.com....check. I WILL make these boots
comfy if it kills me :) I think I need the knee high, I'm not used to
boots flopping around my calves and it feels weird. See, I told you
that Birkenstocks spoiled my feet for every other shoe!!

I'm normally a 9 1/2B, but have a slight bunion (yuck but not yucky
enough for surgery), so I need to stretch out that part of the boot.
It will take a while, but I intend to wear these every time I go out
to a place where there's a small amount of walking – they'll stretch!
Should I step in a puddle or something to speed up the process??
