Here is a suggestion that worked for me and might work for some of you. I
have tried to describe the boot since I don't think you can see it online so
you might tell whether it might be an option for you.
A couple weeks ago Mervyn's had the Aquarius Boot in their weekly ad on sale
for around $50 (I think it is regularly around $90.). It is a leather boot
with a square not pointy toe and a 3" heel. The leather is not butter (what
can you expect for that price), but it is study and I am planning to wear it
even in light rain today. Since it is a less expensive boot, it is made with
a few pieces of leather, but they are pieced together in a subtle way. There
is the expandable thing at the top of the boot.
My calf is very muscular. I recently tried on a Via Spiga boot and there was
zero chance I could ever get it to fit around my calf, even with all the
tricks mentioned here. However this Mervyn's boot fits well around the calf
and does not exert pressure.
I'm a size 8.5 and my calf measures (had to pull out the measuring tape for
this) 15.25" around the largest part, relaxed. Since the boot is not even
tight on me this boot would fit you even if your calf is larger than mine.
I have looked and looked for a nottootrendy boot that would fit and feel
comfortable and was ideally hoping to pay a reasonable price for it. I had a
really hard time finding something that had a look I liked. This boot looks
fairly classic, though it kind of has last year's heel. However, it is super
comfy to wear. And at the price I paid you really can't beat it. The first
pair I tried on were defective in the sole so I asked them to get another
pair from the back and it was fine. This was my first Mervyn's shoe purchase
ever.
