HELP! Christmas Party Attire

"Jamie" <zuschlag–sequ...@tds.net>
O.K. I need help. I'll be going to an impressive Christmas party this year
(was on the Atlanta Social Register a few years ago; I've been out of touch
as of late) and I'm looking for an outfit to wear. I intermittently attend
this party (about half of the time) and want to look my best as I always try
to. The host is a great friend of ours and I like to add to the beautiful
people/beautiful party aura that he encourages. Not that everyone is
beautiful; some are but others make up for it by dressing breathtakingly and
accessorizing beautifully, which he appreciates.
I'm open to pantsuits, dresses, dress suits and almost anything. I'm about
25 lbs. over my normal weight right now, after a baby last year, and need to
stay away from arm–baring designs. I don't look good in anything that
accentuates the shoulders as I'm ever–so–slightly slope shouldered and some
designs accentuate that shortcoming. I look great in portrait collars but
awful in ballet neck anything. I look o.k. in round collars but V–necks
flatter me more. I wear a size 12.
I thought I'd throw this out to the people of AF as I know everyone has
their favorite sites and I was certain that something could be found.
Thanks in advance.

I should add that I'd like to keep the price below $250. $300 could work if
it had to. If it were to die for – $500 tops.

How nice of him to make this concession for his less–than–beautiful guests. He
sounds like a swell guy.

I knew when I said this that it could be misconstrued. The error is on my
part in explaining to you his party–not on his part. I'm sorry that I was
unclear. All of his friends are welcome and invited. I was trying to
convey that he loves for his guests to show their appreciation by being
dressed impeccably. Not that he's an ogre who can only associate with
beautiful people. Which is so not true. And, yes, he is a swell guy. I
won't belabor the point.
I am sorry that I wasn't more clear.

I've read about P Diddy or whoever he is these days expecting his
guests to dress impeccably. People watching at your friend's party
must be fun.

I've had great luck for parties so far this year with black tuxedo pants (I
picked mine up at Banana Republic), a cami with wide straps and a fluttery hem
that just covers my tummy (picked up a perfect turquoise satin one with wide
straps at New York stores), and a velvet blazer with fancy brooch (just bought
a yummy teal blazer at Ann Taylor).
Then of course, jewelery –– including chandelier earrings, high heels, makeup.
Hope this helps!

You know, I never even considered tuxedo pants but that is such a good
thought! And I definitely need to look at Ann Taylor online. Thanks for
the recs.
