My gosh! After this, I'M embarassed to say that we're getting each other a
42" flat screen tv. But then I'm still decorating (not extravagantly) a new
house and in the market also for a new large living room rug, kitchen eating
table and console table for the entry hall (to showcase my French tapestry).
It feels to me like its already Christmas (except I have to do the work!).

But of course!
1) the gold brooch made from a hundred–year–old mold for my club in Chicago
2) a gold link bracelet for my Disney charms
3) a Chanel suit
4) something by Jean Schlumberger––the sixteen stone ring in diamonds
and rubies would do nicely
5) antique silver coffee and tea service––and a sideboard to put it on
4) something fabulous and vintage made out of platinum––diamond Art Deco
bracelet, anyone?
5) the moon on a silver platter––and someone to keep it polished
Actually I'd be happy with some Bill Murray movies on DVD, some bath
soaps, bath salts, cashmere socks and maybe a gift certificate somewhere
fun so I could enjoy shopping for myself.

was on sale
I would love the following (though won't get it)
Danier tulip skirt in the fern green
got the cashmere sweaters so I don't need those (though I have one coming

a new handbag ––that's going to be tomorrow maybe? I have some GC's from

some great earrings. hmmm I haven't figured out what. I have some stuff in

too!

I've always bought whatever I wanted or needed throughout the year, so I don't

Ditto. My favorite present is a book. Often a cookbook, but also

Yeah, everyday, don't have to look nice boots. The ones I have right now
are clunky Steve Maddens. I'd like something a bit more comfortable but
everything I've seen from comfy brands I like (Clarks, Dansko, Ariat) is
just a bit too dowdy. I like Docs but they're too damn stiff.

Chris Braun <braun_ch...@mindspring.com>
It's interesting to read what others say, but I don't have much of an
answer. No one really gives me Christmas presents, usually. DH and I
don't buy gifts for one another; we just sort of buy our own stuff
when we want it. Occasionally one of us will run into something we
know the other would want and buy it for them, but that's unrelated to
the calendar. I wouldn't want DH picking out clothes for me,
certainly –– not that he'd want to –– and I don't see the point in
just telling him what to buy instead of just going out and buying it.
For years my mother gave me a check every Christmas, but I finally
told her to stop. It just seemed sort of unnecessary.
If we spend Christmas with my brother and sister–in–law we exchange
gifts –– usually home decorating sorts of things –– but lately we seem
to go our separate ways for family things. I wouldn't think of asking
them for anything particular, anyway.
I will get predictable small gifts from various people –– a box of
Florida citrus fruits from an aunt, a free massage from my massage
guy, a couple of books from friends –– stuff like that.
I don't mean to sound pathetic here or anything. I enjoy Christmas a
lot, but it hasn't had much to do with getting presents since I was a
child. We used to do more gift exchanging within the family but
lately have drifted away from that as all the nieces and nephews are
growing up. I always enjoyed shopping for them when we did it.
Currently my most favorite Christmas gift shopping is for an
"adopt–a–family" charity tree we have at work. The company selects
several needy families in the area, and –– through the agency who
helps match us up with them –– identifies three "wants/needs" for each
adult and child in each family. I always take a dozen or so of these
from the tree and really enjoy buying clothes and toys and books and
games for the families.
Chris
Leigh Melton <le...@nbi.com>
Joe and I usually exchange one big gift and then a lot of little odds
and ends. Joe thinks he's not good at buying surprises, so he always
asks me to submit a list for my "big gift". He isn't intimated by
stocking stuffers like CDs and books, but anything remotely pricey
makes him nervous. For the biggies I suggested one of these
a pair of diamond hoop earrings
a Burberry Nova Check bag
a peridot & diamond ring in any shape but oval
a Dooney Nile bag in color jeans (sort of purple blue)
a Mr. Do! arcade game
my entire 'favorites list' on Sephora =)
I must say I went through and pruned the Sephora list before
mentioning this, or they would have had to ship my gift via Roadway!
:D
The list thing works out well for us, because it takes the nerves out
of it for him, and it's still something of a surprise for me because I
don't know which item on my list I'll end up receiving.

The selection of colors is excellent! I can't help myself. I'd probably
get the lime green or pink because while they're a bit silly, I don't
mind kitchen appliances in silly colors. On a car, I'd never go for them
but on an espresso machine, I'd be going that route.
Of course, if I went for the lime green espresso machine and another
kitchen appliance in pink, I'd probably go all Lilly on the kitchen and
make it a theme. BAD MOVE :)

IMO, you should go with your heart on these things. I have an orange
microwave.. I had every intention of getting a black one, but when I saw
the orange one I couldn't resist. I've had it four years now and I still
love it. I've never once looked at it and thought I should've gotten the
black one. OTOH, if I'd bought the black one I know I'd still be wishing
I'd bought the orange one instead.

My holiday list:
*a great black leather handbag – something Marc Jacobs–ish
*Ruby red Uggs and tan Uggs (the bf is getting me the tan ones for my
upcoming Dec b–bday I think!).
*jewelry
*gcs to my favorite stores
*cashmere sweaters
Of course, more will be added as the holidays get closer. :)
Laurie
I would love some Uggs for wearing around the house. And I–Pod like device
but it must also UPLOAD! That's all that comes to mind right now.

Like others in this thread, I am having trouble picking out a color.
Your opinion would be greatly appreciated!

Audrey, I am so glad that I posted to this thread––these are great ideas, esp.
the spa idea as I'd forgotten all about my favorite spa's gift certificates––
thank you! :–)
And don't get me wrong––there are things I would like, but either they are
things I would rather choose myself (like books or CDs) or things I can't think
of asking people for (like an iPod or a digitial camera) because as of late so
many of the same people who will be giving me gifts have been incredibly
generous this year already (and with more already promised in the near future).
If you get into the NASCAR circuit, I
understand that the Dale Jr jackets are hot items
They are indeed––however, at the my race last month The Engineer decided I
needed the jacket for "my" driver, and so he bought me one there, so I'm all
set there. It's, uh, very unique ;–) (and it'll safely reside, forever, in the
house in the mountains, as I can't imagine a place where I'd wear it here in
the city :–) ).

There are always accessories like scarves, gloves, handbags, and then there
are g.c. for shoes. I love Audrey's idea for spa g.c., and if you have a
massage person you could let people know about it. There may also kitchen
items and cookware that you could use. That's all that leaps to mind at the
moment. Congrats on your changing size, though! You'll have lots of fun
shopping for new clothes later!

I just saw an item that I have asked my DH for – A shoe stretcher! You shove
this bad boy into your shoe and crank it up and it helps to stretch shoes just
a touch – I can sometimes fit into a size 10 – they just need a little bit of
stretching...and this would help immensely! My favorite shoes are size 10, and
the salesman used a similar device to stretch them for me just a bit – so I
know it works.
They sell two for $19.99 so I might have a second one available for another
bigfoot out there. Audrey, this means you.

I'm not a big gift card fan, but this seems like the perfect occasion
for one. For example, one could give you *an afternoon shopping

Oh, I keep a running Christmas list year round!
* Leather blazer
* turtleneck sweaters in every color of the rainbow because I really
believe you can never have too many
* fun socks
* a new computer –– or at least some more ram and a bigger hard drive
* a bunch of asian horror dvds
* uh, I think a new dvd player since mine seems to have died
* new tv
This is the first Christmas I'll be alone, and I don't have my kids
until the following week, I'm looking forward to not having the
insanity to deal with. It'll be a relief to get up to peace and quiet
on Christmas morning and spend the day relaxing.

I do need a coffeemaker, but I already requested that via the family gift draw
(my siblings and I decided about 10 years ago that for us Christmas was about
our time together (and the children) so we'd just pull one name and keep a cap
on the gift). And I need a new food processor, so I did give that suggestion
to my mom, and I'll add the spa idea too.
But you see, I'm already getting a new mattress, a new television, and a week
in Florida in February as non–Christmas gifts, so everything else is literally
gravy.
Congrats on your changing size, though! You'll have lots of fun
