How many pairs of boots?

"cofarb" <do...@cofarb.com>
A survey which will, hopefully, make me feel better. Please play along.
1. How many pairs of boots do you own?
I have 22 pairs of boots.
2. How many are black?
Twelve pairs are black (though one pair of amazing little Charles Jourdan
ankle boots have red accents).
3. How many are knee–high, almost knee–high or higher?
Eleven.
4. Aside from black, what colors are your boots?
Pink (with reverse applique flowers in other colors)
Turquoise (with reverse applique flowers in other colors)
Red & white cowgirl Fluevogs
Red
Gray
Brown
Assorted colors on the cross–country and other "sport" and practical
(shoveling) boots...
5. In your opinion, how many boots does it take to make you a boot–a–holic?
Twenty–four pairs? (I'd say 23 but I'm bidding on one more pair on ebay
<G>)
"cofarb" <do...@cofarb.com>
At least I live in a climate that really requires boots (though most of my
boots can't be worn in snow or slush).

It's not a number, precisely. But I'd be a boot–a–holic if I owned as
many pairs of boots as I do shoes. ;)

Jo Ann, you may want to keep one pair of boots, one wool coat, etc. for travel.
I don't have any need for cold weather stuff here in Florida, and the only
thing that gets me up to cold climate in the winter is my sisters, so when I go
I have to borrow a coat from one of them.

Really, I amass them in quantities because you just don't realize that there
are so many variations––like I need high, medium and low heeled versions of
knee–high *and* ankle–high boots. There is probably a charting method to
prove a person needs some exponential factor to reach boot nirvana. In

Another fine theory by our resident economist. While I'm not a boot–aholic,
nor even close, I have to snatch them up when I find them because my feet are
so large. (I believe you have the opposite problem, cofarb, and I always think

I have tall brown, short brown, tall denim (these are actually really cute,
with pointy toes & short stiletto heels) short red, and 3 pr. of short black, 2
pr. of tall black, one pair of tall copper–ish heavy leather (old Bort
Carltons) and 4 pair on the way! 2 short black, 1 tall black and 1 tall tan.
I need them all.

Hmmmm.... I probably have the potential to become just as much a
boot–a–holic as cofarb! Knee–high boots tend to look fabulous on me. I
discovered this while shopping with my girlfriend, who lusts for
bootwear but has major challenges because she's quite tall and also has
thickish calves. (It always puts it into perspective for me that while
I am short and get frustrated finding clothes that fit, being tall like
her is not necessarily the solution I may think it is!)
We would try on the same boot in different sizes, and she'd despair
because they looked better on me, and here I was, not intending to
invest in another pair... so of course, I had to buy the burgandy ones
because she insisted I must since they looked so darn good... and then
of course I had to buy a skirt to go with them. :–)
Anyway, I suspect if I tried on more boots, I'd end up buying a lot
more boots. :–)

Ahh... cofarb, that's a lot of boots! LOL! But then again, I try to be
a minimalist. I generally stick to brown and black, and it seems
overkill (for me) to have more than one pair in each color in knee high
and also ankle height. Especially since I don't wear skirts all that
often.
I bought the burgandy pair of boots because I find the color works
equally well with outfits I would normally opt for brown or black
shoes. It's a versatile neutral. These boots are just so gorgeous and
comfy. They make my calves look tiny as can be.
I have three pairs of Uggs because my DD's like to borrow them in the

Well, it's funny, because it wasn't until I answered this poll that I
realized how many pairs of boots I own. While four isn't a lot, my original
answer was two until I remembered my Pajars and the pair of Nocona cowboy
boots gathering dust in my closet (they are so classic, I'll own them
forever, even though I haven't worn them in probably six years).
I think another rationale for collecting boots in quantity is that
generally, they're pretty timeless. Of course there are always trendy,
faddish styles, but for the most part, the styling tends to be classic. So
they're more of an investment, IMO, than regular ol' shoes.

I actually don't have many right now. My feet grew a half–size when I had my
kid way back when, and I haven't had an opportunity to replace most of the
boots I owned. I currently have only three pairs: a short, black pair with
wedge heels; a medium, black pair with cuffs (my favorites, by far); and a
tall, high–heeled black pair.
I want to get a pair of short–to–medium–height brown boots, just not in the

I'll be checking out their half–yearly sale.
I still miss the red boots I outgrew. :(

The style of boots I have are soft leather and fit over pants. I don't wear

I do wear them with longer skirts (not necessarily ankle–length, just
so that there is no gap between the bottom of the skirt and the top of
the boots) and with pants. While you don't see the shaft of the boot,
you do see the line where the skirt or pants hit the boot. I like
that smooth look –– no gap, no visible tights or hose.
As to why ... well, they're a lot less money. They keep my *warm

large calves and, therefore, limited access to boots, they allow my to

2. black – mid calf, pleather (muddy weather wear)

5. tan – knee high, suede with fringe

1. How many pairs of boots do you own?
10 (including snow boots and hiking boots).
2. How many are black?
8
3. How many are knee–high, almost knee–high or higher?
None. My calves are both too long and too muscular to fit in
knee–high boots––when I've tried wide–calf boots on, they gapped
around the ankle and lower calf, and ended at least three inches below
my knees. **Not** a good look.
4. Aside from black, what colors are your boots?
Red Tony Lamas
Dark taupey brown other cowboy boots (Durango?)
5. In your opinion, how many boots does it take to make you a boot–a–holic?
Twenty–four pairs? (I'd say 23 but I'm bidding on one more pair on ebay
<G>)
Sure. 24 pairs works for me. Remember, cofarb, you can quit anytime.
I'd own more boots if I could ever find stretchy boots that were made
in special tall sizes (at least an inch–and–a–half taller than the
tallest knee–high boot I have ever seen in a store), in 9 1/2 C.
Maybe some day I will be rich and enterprising enough to have boots
custom–made and then I will have knee–high boots, too.
Sigh.

1. How many pairs of boots do you own?
Around 7, I think.
2. How many are black?
5 pairs are black:
*Nine West black leather medium high boots with a high thin heel that is
thick across the back.
*Nine West black shiny leather medium high boots, but slightly lower than
the above and with a similar heel
*Nine West black leather just below the knee boots with a stacked heel
*Connie brand black leather low–ish stacked heel boots
*Cathy Jean black pointy toe shiny calf leather boots with a stiletto heel
(looks like Jimmy Choos)
3. How many are knee–high, almost knee–high or higher?
3 pairs
4. Aside from black, what colors are your boots?
bright orange Banana Republic stacked heel rainboots
Yellow–tan ("Banana") Frye Campus boots
5. In your opinion, how many boots does it take to make you a boot–a–holic?
I don't really think I'm a boot–a–holic, but I do wear boots most of the
time in the fall and winter. I wear the basic styles...similar ones
everyday. I really could use another pair since my two favorite pairs are
getting a bit worn out. I guess more than 10 pairs could make you a
boot–a–holic. :)

new pair (or two). I wear them all the time at home in the winter. My bf

If you live in a year–round warm climate, probably 6 pairs or so. If you live

as I would sandals to warmer climates. Although that's probably not a fair

I never really thought about it before...I will have to run from dressing room
to computer while I do this:
Black:
1.short zip up Naots
2.a bit higher than ankle Brighton in leather/fabric with a small heel
3. suede a bit higher than ankle Arche with a small heel
4. suede over the knee or scrunchable lower with a wedge heel by Via Spiga
Red:
5. Naots like #1
Eggplant:
6. Arche like #3
Brown:
7.Short leather Enzos with stacked heel
8. Short suede with pointed toe I got in Spain years ago...too uncomfortable to
wear (do they still count?)
Green
9. Mid calf vintage Joan & Davids from when Ann Taylor carried them. Not
totally comfortable but darling. I might sell them on eBay if they are not
comfortable enough to wear all day.
Snow:
10. Tan rubber snow boots with fake sheepskin lining. Bought before there were
Uggs (at least known to me)
Wish list:
Ruby red Uggs...I love the pink but think these will be easier to keep clean
Something highish with a highish heel. Haven't really been looking yet. I am a

Thanks for the leeway. I "won" another pair of Kenneth Cole boots, new in

are beautiful leather and well–finished on the inside so they don't mess up

My responses ...
1. How many pairs of boots do you own?
About 11. I haven't pulled them out yet, so I could be off by a
couple. This includes snow boots, of course. Also (speaking for the
defense), One's bus stop for the past 2 years was in a place where we
had to wait outside no matter what the weather. Particularly in cold
and snow, the driver was frequently 20 minutes or more late (and if a
school bus can't handle the icy hills, I'm not about to try it with my
Honda!). Since I rarely wear pants, these were a necessity. Honest.

1. How many pairs of boots do you own?
I was surprised: only 7! As much I wear them in fall and winter, I
feel I should own more! :–)
2. How many are black?
Five, all of which are ankle boots save for the ones in my answer to
#3.
––Nicole square toed boots with size zip and black elastic gusset, my
"everyday" boot
––Brass Plum pointy–toed ruched boots with a 2 1/2" heel (a trendy
purchase that's made me very happy this fall)
––Two pair of Cole Haan boots with 2" heels, one a pull–on stretch
black crushed velvet (very versatile), the other a pull on leather
that I have loved almost literally to death.
3. How many are knee–high, almost knee–high or higher?
One, a black leather riding boot with cross–straps on the vamp,
purchased on deep sale late last winter. I tried on (or rather, I
attempted to try on) a lot of knee–high low–heeled boots before I
found a pair I liked that was comfortable.
4. Aside from black, what colors are your boots?
I have a pair of chocolate brown suede Adrienne Vittadini zip–up boots
that are about done for; Aerosoles has some very appealing brown suede
options I'm considering as replacements. I also have a pair of cognac
brown Timberland hiking boots that I wear occasionally for their
intended purpose, more often as my default nasty weather boots.
What I'd like to add: some black suede cold–weather boots from La
Canadienne, a fun pair of rain boots (or maybe clogs) and a pair of
wine–colored suede boots to wear with pants.
5. In your opinion, how many boots does it take to make you a boot–a–holic?
Twenty–four pairs? (I'd say 23 but I'm bidding on one more pair on ebay
Hmm...I'd say one would have to be past 50 pairs to be a bootaholic.
