I wish my Nike tennis shoes would be recalled because I'm developing
hard calluses almost like corns under my toes.

Audrey, if you are playing tennis in your tennis shoes, try thicker socks. It
helps me.
Thicker socks might help anyway, even if they are just for walking.

I used them for walking. They are Nike Shox Allegria women's walking
shoes. I had been wearing New Balance and was getting calluses on the
sides of my toes. I do need to invest in Thorlo socks. I think my
socks have been washed too many times and they really aren't thick.
Thanks for the help.

"My" socks are World's Softest Socks from onehanesplace.com . (Note: the
crew socks are the only ones I buy; the 1/4 and knee versions aren't nearly
as cushy.) I wear these for running and never get blisters or other
problems. Super soft!

I discovered these at the Hanes outlet store last year when I was pregnant
and searching for comfortable socks, and they really are wonderful. I
practically bought them in bulk and wore them exclusively for several
months. Best of all, they are also available in a larger size for those of
us with a shoe size larger than 10. And this makes all the difference in
the world when it comes to comfort and overall wear, IMHO.

I *do* buy them in bulk, Michele! If you buy them from OneHanesPlace.com
they drop down to the still–overpriced price of $3.99/pair. Shipping is
appalling but they periodically offer reduced price or free shipping codes.
(I would call them and see if I could wheedle a reduced shipping rate.) For
an added treat, wear them inside out; they're even softer that way.

Just wondering if these socks make shoes slide around a lot. I like to keep my
shoes on my feet.

Actually, I think the opposite is true, at least for me. The socks are
substantial yet fluffy. There's nothing slippery about them. I wear them
for running and I feel like I have a firm cushion around my feet. I, too,
hate to have my feet slip around in shoes; it's very irritating. The only
problem with these socks is that when they wear out at the heel, the
cushioning is gone. Even if the socks are otherwise new–looking, I toss 'em
when I see the underlying (warp & weft?) foundation. Given how much running
I do, I suppose the socks aren't really short–lived; I just wish they lasted
longer.

This is a great help to me. With a size 11 my toes are often cramped
into a pair of socks. As most of you know I've had surgery twice on my
feet for hammertoes and bunions. I love to walk and really need to have
comfortable shoes and socks. I think there is a Hanes outlet in the
center sixty miles from where I live. I'll also do some on line
research.
Thanks again

Audrey, you will probably find that the socks are more expensive at the
outlet than in the catalog/online. I think they charge $5 a pair or more at
the outlet vs. $4.49 (but $3.99 if you buy 4 or more pairs) online. Given
the price of gas these days, paying the shipping is probably a better deal.
Also, the stores don't always have the socks in a variety of sizes. I don't
know if I've ever seen the queen size at the outlet.
I ordered a few pairs for my son, too. (They have the nerve to charge more
for the men's socks!) And I always get some for a few of my friends who
refer to them as their "Camp Donna Rose" socks. You wouldn't think people
would be happy to get socks for Hannukkah and Christmas, but they are.

reading this thread makes me want these socks! Never paid more than a couple
bucks for socks, though....
I wonder if after they've worn on the heel from running, some sort of material
can be attached to the worn heel part to give them a second life as snuggly
jammie–type socks to wear around the house? My feet get so cold at night in
the winter that i sleep in socks.

I just placed an order for four pairs for the price break but probably
should have thought of other family members too. I may revisit the site.
Thanks for all of your help.

Sometimes the combo of foot structure/mechanics + specific activity can
result in calluses. Sometimes no matter what you do in terms of switching
shoes and socks your feet can end up with calluses from activities that put
repeated pressure on certain parts of the foot. This can be the result of
foot mechanics. In those cases it is hard or impossible to find a shoe/sock
combination that adequately protects. But now that you've got the new shoes,
do try switching socks, but for added preventative measure, or if you cannot
find a shoe/sock combo that eliminates the calluses, you could stick on some
moleskin before the walks. Then just strip it off right away.
