It's only four years ago, and we've already got people trying to
engage in revisionist history.
There was a matter of interpretation of the election laws, and the
Court did what it was supposed to.
when all the votes were tallied, Gore got more of the popular
vote (about 400K votes more than Bush).
And we had four years when we heard nothing but whining about Bush

We voted again yesterday, and Bush only got 4 million more votes than

[snip a bunch of gloating about the victory of the anti–patriot Bush]
And Kerry doesn't even have the dignity to concede the election. What a
whiny, pathetic loser. He is truly unfit for command.........the people
have decided. Bush won both the electoral college AND the popular vote.
Al Gore behaved like a gentleman. Kerry probably learned from Gore's
experience that it just doesn't pay to act like a gentleman when yer
dealing with a scumbag. Or, he decided that the future of the United
States is just too important to turn over to a proven failure, without
taking it all the way to the wall.
The ignorant, the greedy, and the superstitious have spoken. I am
ashamed to know that more than half of my countrymen fall into one (or
more) of those categories.
Here's a letter written by a friend of mine:
November 3, 2004
Dear Senator Kerry:
I would like to thank you for running for the office of President. I
know that it must have been difficult for you and your family to go
through this. This campaign was filthy with accusations against your
honor, your courage, your work ethic, and your service to the citizens
of the United States. You and your family have had the courage to
stand up and speak for the other half of the electorate and I am
deeply grateful.
As I reflect on the campaign, there are many things for which I was
proud but, unfortunately, many more for which I was appalled. I
remember my certainty that my fellow Americans would not be fooled by
a man that says all the right things but does none of them, by a man
who claims morality but does not act it, a man who would buy
re–election with the lives of 3,000 Americans, 1,100 American troops,
and 100,000 Iraqi civilians, a man who actively destroys our democracy
by weakening Congress, manipulating the Supreme Court, grabbing power
for the President, and allowing corporations to dictate policy.
I am proud that half of my fellow Americans looked behind the curtain
to see that there is a sad little man hiding back there, pretending to
be strong and wise. But I am more appalled that the other half is too
lazy to look behind the curtain, too lazy to seek answers on their
own, allowing themselves to be spoon fed whatever a few media
corporations decide they want them to know.
I worry because our country is still young. Our democracy is still in
the experimental stages and only many years will determine whether we
survive or succumb to our own arrogance. We have a global economy and
world wide media. Consequently, the problems of a few become the
problems of the many. No country can stand alone to face these world

experience that it just doesn't pay to act like a gentleman when yer
dealing with a scumbag.
No country can stand alone to face these world
wide problems. I believe that those countries that face these problems
together will become strong and those who try to go it alone become
irrelevant. Already the European Union has become more powerful
economically than the United States and China is not far behind. But
you know these things Senator Kerry. Those who limit themselves only

I'll admit to not being up on the popular current usage of Godwin's Law
( yeesh...say something clever once, while you're stuck in Texas, and it

certainly seems like a rather severe limitation on the idea of free
debate to me. It just meant that as any Usenet confab droned–on the
probability of someone making a nazi or Hitleresque comparision rose
towards the point of certainty.
I know this because I've sat in on a dinner where Godwin himself
pontificated on the subject. So there. Nyaaaaah! < sticks out tongue in

As for the rest of it...I believe that people end up with the government
they deserve, so for the next four years we'll see just what the
American public deserves – and what they choose to do about it if it
doesn't go down smooth.

I don't know about the other newsgroups, but on alt.fashion, invoking
Godwin's Law means that a thread is over. In case you aren't familiar with

Godwin's Law /prov./ [Usenet] "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the
probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one." There
is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over,
and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was
in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an
upper bound on thread length in those groups.

I don't get it. No one deliberately mentioned Hitler's name––and I didn't
bring up the Holocaust. It was Just Me (which is not to be confused with

Oh, and I'm betting that regardless of whether Godwin's Law actually

You know, I considered someone invoking Godwin's when I made that
observation and decided it didn't meet the law's requirements. I was
specifically NOT going for Hitler or Naziism, but rather for a large
scale historical crisis that is denied by a great many crackpots.

So?
What's necessarily wrong about THAT?
The average person has an IQ of 100.
50% of the people are below–average, by definition.
By that standard, (comparing against me), 95% of the people in the USA
*are* stupid. By that same standard, (comparing against the average
Usenet groupie) over 85% of the people in the USA are dumb.
If the average person in most of the newsgroups thinks the results of
the election was the result of massive stupidity on the part of
voters, then they have good evidence to support that conclusion.
(It may or may–not be TRUE; but if most of the smarter people in the
country think so, then I at least, consider that good evidence. You
may not ... Your privilege.)
People voting in the USA are all too easily swayed by EMOTION, not
logic or brains. Again, what's so hard to understand about that?
This whole campaign (on BOTH sides, mind) was almost entirely based on
emotional issues. Is it then so hard to understand that the decision
most people made WERE on emotional issues instead of serious thought?
Shit: More people go to the polls and vote based on LOOKS alone, than
vote on serious thought about what each candidate stands for. THAT is
using brains? I think not.
No. The whole campaign was based (on both sides) on who could scare
the voters more ... and Bush *did* win. That doesn't make him a smart
choice. (Nor would it have made Kerry a smart choice if HE had won.)
It just means HIS campaign people worked out a better strategy for
scaring people about his opponent. The war that Bush started (I think
for that very purpose ... see, "Wag the Dog") made it hard for anybody
else to win. People in the USA just don't like to switch presidents
in a time of war. That doesn't make them SMART; it just makes them
SCARED ... Which was the whole idea.
It will be so much easier for you smart folks when you lose again.... and
again.... and again....
