Josef Seibel shoes

beesw...@aol.com (beeswing)
I bought a pair of Josef Seibel shoes at the Nordstrom Rack today...at about
$50 down from almost $125. I know the name just from seeing shoes like them at
"walking shoes" stores and such, but don't know much about the brand. They seem
very well made, and they fit and (I think) look great. I *think* I scored big
time, at that price. Can anyone tell me a little about this manufacturer's
shoes?
Thanks!

They're the same category as Mephisto et al shoes: comfortable (usually
European) walking shoes. IMO, you got a good deal on them.

Thanks for the information. Mephisto is another brand I've seen but don't know
much about.

Mephisto shoes are awesome, comfortable, attractive and long–wearing. I have a
number of them and I am very very pleased with them.

It's a German, family–owned company:

The womens' shoes all have girly names.

Thanks for directing me to the web site. They give a nice bit of history about
the family's shoe business.

I see now that they do. The web site says mine are named "Raffaela," and the
color they come in is"splendid brasil." The latter is an awfully fancy term for
"brown."

I hate it when companies name their colors something weird and I don't know
what the name means. It's often hard to figure out the color of something
looking at it on a monitor, and if the color name is something cutesy, then it
doesn't offer any hints as to the real color.
Back to shoes in general though – I've had a couple of pairs of Seibel shoes
that were very comfortable, but they were purchased years ago. I have no
current experience with them. Mephistos were mentioned and I have a closet
full of Mephistos that I absolutely love – so comfortable and over the years
they've come out with a few stylish styles that I can wear to work (most seem
to be sandals or lace–up walking shoes). However, lately they're pricing has
gotten out of whack for the type shoes they sell, and the few styles I've been
interested in are painful from the first test step. I haven't bought a pair of
Mephistos in the past 3 years or so because of this. Another problem with
Mephisto is that they don't come out with enough new styles.

That's the reason that Pantone makes color–standard chips. Effective
but pricey.
"Pantone 485C" isn't a cutesy name but it has a standard definition.
Some of the companies that use it in their logo:

Lilly
MasterCard
Texaco

I've had one pair of Seibels that were very comfortable, but the stitching
came loose along the side and on one of the buckle straps far too soon and
it looked/felt hideous. Another pair of Seibels in a different style, before
even owning them for six months (and I own a lot of shoes) the sole split
straight across on the right foot, rain seeped in, and they were unable to
be repaired without paying nearly the same price I paid for the shoes in the
beginning. They're comfortable shoes, but I'm convinced they are crafted
poorly out of shitty material. I'll never buy their shoes again.
Just my opinion based on experiences...

Hee! I too scored a pair for $49.99 yesterday, but at Marshall's.

I have had several pairs of Josef Seibel shoes – fisherman sandal type (but not
sandals),
open toe clogs, closed toe clogs, slip ons. They're made in Germany.
I love, love, love them. They are so comfy and fit my feet so well, that I
would snap
up a pair at $50 anytime. FWIW, the ones currently in my closet range from 4
years
old to 1 year old, and are in as good shape as when I bought them.

Bargain! I think everyone has already given you the basic facts, but
I just wanted to chime in and say that I've had two very good pairs of
Seibel shoes that lasted at least two years in each case.

Comfy shoes, great manufacturing and design, should last for several
years (or more) depending on how often you wear them. I have a pair of JS
black ankle boots and they're great, very comfy. That was a *very* good
price!
