Care and softening of patent leather boots

rachel_le...@yahoo.com (Rachel L.)
Hi all,
Just received my pair of black patent leather thigh high boots
and was wondering how best to care for them?
Also, they are quite stiff. Do they normally 'soften' once worn
for a bit. I have a mini–skirt which takes a few moments of wearing
to soften up, but, it seems to be made of somewhat thinner material
than these.

If they are genuine leather, you can certainly count on them to soften (and
crease) with wear. If you are going to be wearing them in foul weather, you
may want to treat them with one of the gzillion leather care
products––probably one of the "cremes"––that promise to protect the leather.
Check the label to make sure the product is recommended for use on patent
finished leather. Also, if/when they are exposed to salt, do wipe them down
with a damp cloth to keep them from getting white spots/streaks from the
salt. (The salt will probably wreck the finish eventually, and in the short
run will make the boots unsightly.)
