Macy's: I'm impressed

"shinypenny" <shinypenny0...@yahoo.com>
I got an email from Macy's this weekend that had an email alias for
sending suggestions to the President (president at macys.com). I just
sent a long email asking why they don't offer petite sizing on their
web site, and telling them about how I saw a variety of Inc cashmere
sweaters being offered in regular sizes, but was disappointed they
didn't offer them in petites (knowing that the store itself offers Inc
petites – although I checked two stores myself in recent weeks and
didn't find these particular cashmere sweaters).
Shortly after hitting send, I got a personal response back from the VP
of Marketing. She will pass my comments to their head merchandiser.
Apparently, I'm not the only one requesting petites online.
It's so nice to feel like someone is listening.
Banana Republic is another one that seems to listen. I've written them
a few times and I practially feel personally responsible for bringing
to their attention the value in offering petite sweaters. <grin>.
Now if only Ann Taylor would wise up and listen to me and stop using
the USPS. ARGH.

As a long–term reader, people cuss at every one of the common
carriers.
Yellow Freight holds a particular ire in my book by insisting I be
home for a delivery, then dropping it off at the apartment office
without even notifying me. Feh.

Good for you. I gave up requesting them to carry larger shoe sizes.

I saw the INC boat neck cashmere sweaters for $100 at Macy's Herald Square
about two weeks ago. I wanted one in hot pink, but, of course, they didn't
have them in the petites section. I looked online, but they only had regular
sizes.
I just bought a similar sweater in black from Banana Republic, and I love it,
but they didn't have any other colors of interest.
I have a new policy of only buying sweaters in PXS because (as far as I know)
they can't be tailored.
Good for you for sending the email. Maybe they'll finally get the message and
start offering more of a selection in INC petites.

My biggest frustration with sweaters – including petite brands other
than BR, which does it right – is that they are usually way toooo long
and turtlenecks have too much fabric at the neck.
That's the issue that I have with regular size sweaters. It's not the length
of the sleeves as much as it is the bottom of the sweater. I can't stand when
a sweater hits below the hip. I never noticed the turtleneck problem, but now
I'll be looking for it.
To make matters worse, I received a Macy's catalog today, and there were even
more cute cashmere sweaters that appealed to me. These were not the classic
crew neck or v neck sweaters that you see all the time. These had really
interesting necklines. It said they were available in petite sizes, but
where??? If you can't find them in Herald Square, you're not going to find them
anywhere else. Phone orders were not being accepted. :(

Maybe if you complained too... ?
I probably will.
P.S. Now, you've got me considering the white BR boatneck sweater.

THANK YOU!!! This is my *biggest* pet peeve! I want my sweaters (and
tees for that matter) to hit at high hip. Anything longer, and I look
like I have stubby little legs.

It is really, really nice. Worth every darn penny. Hits at high hip.
The material is luxurious and oh so warm and cozy.
Early in the season, I bought a cashmere cardigan from Target, just $39
I figured why not. Well, the difference is huge. The BR cashmere, for
$128, is so much better. Warmer, tighter weave, etc.
I just hope it wears well. I have another cashmere sweater from a few
years ago (Not BR) and I wore it so often, it is thinning out at the
elbows. I keep telling myself I should sew on leather elbow patches,
since they seem to be in style, then I could get some more wear out of
it.
Another place to check is Ann Taylor. Their sizing is not quite as
consistent, but it's not bad, and some of their styles do hit at high
hip. Jcrew was good too (at least last year it was), but a wool sweater
I bought there last year did not hold up well at all. I've been tempted
by their cashmere crew neck, but I'm dubious. I might try it if it goes
on sale.

Yes, I was so disappointed, too. Not only was the site offering Inc
cashmere sweater in boatnecks, they were offering V–necks and
crew–necks too! And in a wide variety of colors! Alas, not in petites.
:–(

Yep, after Macy's disappointed me, I bought a black and a white
boatneck from BR. I love these sweaters – so toasty and worth the $.
But I agree with you – not enough colors of interest. I am so sick of
black and white, black and white. I wrote that in my email too – that I
get frustrated that petites are only ever offered in the most basic
styles and colors.
I will say that I do like the white boatneck – it's a nice winter
white.
I have a new policy of only buying sweaters in PXS because (as far as

I'm a PS. At least with BR, I know with certainty that anything I order
in PS will fit me perfectly. I like that confidence. I just wish they'd
offer additional colors and a V–neck or crew–neck. The boatneck is
cool, but I don't want all my sweaters to be boatnecks... that gets
boring.
My biggest frustration with sweaters – including petite brands other
than BR, which does it right – is that they are usually way toooo long
and turtlenecks have too much fabric at the neck. I tried on a gorgeous
emerald green CK cashmere turtleneck the other day, and it was
ridiculous. Despite being an PXS, the sweater went down past my butt
(making my legs look way too short) and there was so much fabric at the
neck it went up past my chin. I didn't want to be eating cashmere all
day. :–) Otherwise, the sleeves fit.
I am so thankful that BR does it right. It has been such a revelation
for me to discover that certain styles I've normally steered clear
from, thinking "that style doesn't flatter me," can actually flatter me
*provided* the cut is petite! IOW, it hasn't been the style at all, but
the proportions. It's so neat to order something and have it look on me
just like it looks on the model. :–)

Didn't JCrew stop making cashmere sweaters in petite sizes?
I bought a PXS black cashmere turtleneck from them two or three years ago (fits
perfectly). That was the last time I remember seeing cashmere sweaters in
petite sizes on their website.

They are showing *one* cashmere sweater, a crew neck, in petite. It's
offered in a range of colors. I like the Ivy.
