gel nails

I have been getting acrylic nails for years...now I hear a lot about gel
nails...what exactly are they and what is the difference between gel and
acrylic

I've had acrylics for about 10 years now and I switched to gel last spring.
I now prefer the gel and have continued with them rather than the acrylics.
I find them much more natural looking. The french manicure is the best with
the gel as the finish is so shiny it is not necessary for them to paint your
nails as the gel over your nails and the white tips is a perfect finish! I
wouldn't go back to acrylics!

If my nails are relatively short right now, can I put gels on them and it

the back they way that is done with the acrylics? One thing I did not like
about acrylics is all the damage to the nail bed that happens from filing
the back of the nail when they do the fills.
