Fab Finds from the Fleece Freak

stephanie <stepha...@keybeaute.com>
For those in a cold climate who hit the deck running in the early morn
[read: extra chilly 'til the heat kicks in], this fleece robe from
Nordstrom is warm and soft and loooong [great array of size/length
options}. I bought one for myself and I'm going to buy one for my sister
too! I just wish I could wear it to work!?!
http://tinyurl.com/6sqg6
And this little number is far, far off the fashion front but who can
argue with "no chilly drafts up your back?" Sometimes function trumps
fashion, and this is one of those times:

Ooh... that reminds me: I need to find a replacement for my favorite
polarfleece pants this year. I wear these pants all the time to kick
around the house or shovel snow, and they've gotten really REALLY
ratty, with lint stuck all over them (yep tried to remove the lint but
it's hopeless). My family started teasing me for wearing these last
season, so you know they look really bad and it's time to find new
ones!
Does anyone know a source for black fleece pants in petite size, with
NO pockets? Preferably inexpensive, too? Most of the pants I see have
pockets, and with fleece pockets, I think this tends to add too much
thickness around the hips.

Hmmm, I found these ones http://tinyurl.com/435mg at Mountain
Equipment Co–op in Canada but I'm not sure what the sizing is like for
petites. I notice they ship to the US but it might be too expensive.
Have you tried rei.com? That seems to be the US equivalent of MEC. I
just found these on their website http://tinyurl.com/689n4 but, again,
I'm not sure about the sizing. Oh, and those have a little pocket at
the waist so maybe not what you're looking for. Here's another pair
from REI: http://tinyurl.com/5b6o4.

I'm wearing pocketless fleece pants right now. They're by Russell
Athletic, and I bought them at Kohl's. I don't know if they come in
black, though; mine are grey with blue stripes up the sides. And
they're not petite, but I usually wear a petite length (28" jeans
inseam) and these are fine.
I agree with you about pockets in fleece pants –– don't like the bulk.

Try LL Bean. I saw some microfleece pants there. Dunno about the
sizing. Also there was some on QVC.

Last year I scored some children's black fleece pants at Old Navy. The year
before, I got some at Gap.

Just checked ON's site and I see fleece at a good price, cheaper than
REI and LL Bean. I'm headed to ON today to go shopping for
DD–nearly–12's bday presents, so I'll check it out. Thanks!

OK, now here's a challenge.
I am looking for black fleece pants, but not regular fleece, Powerstretch
fleece (with a smooth face) because dog hair doesn't stick to it. They
need to be cut pretty close (not baggy) and run true to size (i.e., not
large) and preferably bootcut, not tapered.
I have a pair of Powerstretch pants that are fabulous (they are REI
brand, if you need to know) and fit me well even in length but they are
basically tights and I want something I can wear like normal clothes.
Any leads?

Well now you have me seriously intrigued. I don't have a pet, but my
old fleece pants got disgusting not only because of the lint and pills,
but because they have this habit of picking up long blonde hairs when I
run them through with the regular load of wash. DF tells me that pants
with human hair stuck all over them is much grosser than dog hair. :–)

I can only tell you that I did pick up a pair of fleece pants at ON
today. Only $19.50. They are heavy fleece, fit well around the hips
(like yoga pants), and go straight down (not tight but not with the
type of bootcut that is tight on the thighs and then flares slightly to
accomodate the boot). I bought the XS's and they fit perfectly on
waist, hips, thighs, but are about 2 inches too long. (I have a 28 inch
inseam).
Speaking of which, does anyone know whether fleece shrinks? I think
not. If I want to wear these out of the house, I suppose I'll have to
have them hemmed.

Melanie! I think I found exactly this stuff at Marshall's today! It was in
the activewear department––workout clothes. I bought a pair of the leggings
and two tops to wear for cold weather biking. I think you are smaller than
I am, so the "leggings" will be fairly loose on you, but they might do.
They were labeled "tights" and came in black. The tops were in various
colors and styles. Some of the tops were labeled "polar fleece" I think,
but they were smooth on the outside, almost like nylon, not fuzzy. I think
the overall effect is workout wear rather than "normal" clothes, but... For
Marshall's, the prices were sort of steep––$25 for the tops I bought and $30
or so for the leggings; I think the "list" prices were in the $50 range.

It shouldn't shrink. I believe it's made from recycled plastic jugs. (It
does, however, melt. My son leaned against the glass of our gas fireplace
while wearing a fleece sweatshirt and it "glommed" onto the glass. It took
a professional cleaning to remove the residue from the glass.)
