"Today" is now "yesterday"I went for a long, freezing mountain bike
ride
in a place called Bear Swamp. (My last foray in Bear Swamp landed me in
the
e.r.) The pampering came later when I took an extended soak in the hot
tub.
Ahhhhhhhh!
cofarb
i'm glad this ride was less eventful, cofarb! what are you wearing to stay
warm/dry/not overheated for long bike rides in this weather, pray tell?
i'm
finding my clothing options to be pretty ineffective in this weather...
I drove to the swamp <g> wearing all of this:
Black silk crewneck longsleeved undershirt;
Pink fleece pullover hoodie;
Fitted stretchy black workout leggings;
Black nylon wind pants;
Columbia purple hooded "shell" layer (I carried the inside layer which is a
fleece jacket but didn't use it);
Stretchy chenille gloves (I brought my fingerless biking gloves but it was
too cold to wear them).
Alreadyruined running shoes with thick, "world's softest socks".
I put up the hood on my pink fleece hoodie and then put my helmet on on top
of the hood! It was too damned cold! I was miserably cold until my biking
partner offered up that second pair of gloves to layer under my chenille
gloves. I brought along extra socks and shoes to change into afterwards in
case I got too wet, but that wasn't a huge issue. I think the silk
underwear is a great, comfortable layer to wear for cycling.
cofarb, who is probably going to stick with the treadmill for the next few
months (except for snowshoeing, shoveling, etc.)
P.S. In the middle of the swamp, we found a small old family graveyard that
included the grave (or at least the headstone) of a 19yearold who had
apparently died while serving in the Civil War. We asked him to help bring
our young men and women home quickly and safely.
