Best time for NYC

What's the best time to fly to NYC for holiday shopping? I work full
time and I'm a student, so time and money's an issue, but I love the
stores in the city and don't want to go to some boring mall to get my
gifts. Hello retail people. Are there going to be any sales this year
pre–holdiay?
