For those of you who know my child, she's never been one to really be into
shopping for clothing. I think I have posted before where we went through
most of South Coast Plaza and hit more than 20 stores and didn't buy that
much (I think it was April this year).
Her biggest problem was that she didn't want to try things on.. Asking
her
to go to a Planet Lulu sale was insanity. I remember just before we went
to
Hawaii, she wouldn't go to the sale that was literallly the day before we
left but a friend and I went and scored much stuff.
Now in 8th grade, eventhough there are uniforms at her public school, she
still wants to be fashionable. She does have this thing for handbags
(don't
look at me. I am not the handbag queen.)
Well last weekend (not this past Sat), I bribed her into going to
Loehmann's with me since I had some certificates I wanted to use.
Fashiondish was unavailable but thanks to a bribe of books + CD, we
headed
off to Loehmanns
When she got in there, I turned her loose to go see what she could find..
I found a single cashmere sweater from Wendy B (beautiful grey boatneck
3/4
sleeve) on the other hand, Miss Thang came back with literally an
armfull
of hangers and there on the floor we edited some of her choices. ( she's
got
this thing for Juicy Couture not my choice)... Eventually I found 3
things
to try on, the kid found a few more and we headed to the dressing rooms.
Well there was a 10 person line and it was a good 20 minute wait for
private
dressing room. She wanted to wait and I said, "see ya" and headed into the
group area. eventually after waiting at most 7 minutes, she relented and
started trying things on next to me. Some were really cute, some were omg
NO! some were waaaaaaaaaaaay too short. (as in skirts) One of the other
customers next to the kid smiled when I said "huh uh no way" to a skirt
that
was almost indecent.
she walked out with pants and several shirts and a hoodie!
SCORE for her and me because after that she still got the CD as she
couldn't find the books she wanted.
She was so proud of her new stuff but she really wanted one or two of the
Juicy skirts (black and pink ones) and I was not willing to go the
distance
for those skirts.
She did get an emerald satin stripe drop waist ruched seam skirt that is
sensational for the holidays. (*she does need to learn about color
coordination though>. )
nooo. Not the end of the story.
Yesterday, Fashiondish and I wanted to check out the Columbus day sale
and
when I mentioned it to the kid she was jumping up and down.. going "right
on.. Juicy Couture!"
( no lie!)
so we picked up Miss FD and the trio of bargain hunters headed to the
nearest sale du jour. Immediately, the kid took off on her "hunt" I
picked
up a blue cashmere ($70) but wasn't thrilled with it. We scoured handbags,
jeans, everything in the store.
The kid came back to me with another armload of stuff. Repeating from the
previous week: a tee that has TRUTH emblazoned on it for 40 .. nixed that.
ditto one that said something else. Big nix on the Baby Phat jacket (60!!
for cotton!) Ok on the pink lemonade one. found some skirts and tops
that
made my eyes bug out but I told her that whatever she picked out had to
receive the mom's seal of approval.. ( both in price and wearability) she
even picked up a deep cranberry funnelneck cotton ribbed sweater! (now
that's a great deal)
Got her to try on some Mavi jeans... she needed to go up a size, I needed
to
go down a size in what I tried on. The blue cashmere was silly. Found THE
PERFECT black boots. Italian leather with slightly pointed squared toe
with
a low but carved heel for 90 dollars had a warm lining but it fit
perfectly. So I schlepped that around during our trip. Found a pair of
Mavi
five pocket stone colored peached twill jeans.. they fit so great! Just
need hemming. Got a brown XCVI brown tshirt with black stars on it too
for
me!
Fashiondish found nothing particular. the kid found 6 shirts including a
black Juicy top (it was completely plain) and a layered tee with a cute
little pin that was very sweet pea like plus some other stuff.
Overall the bill was over 200 and then I whipped out my loehmans bonus
points.. 15% off everything. *yippee!
saved a lot of change and wound up being just a hair over 170. Now that
was
a deal.
Hopefully the kid will learn that one has to find the right deals, at the
right prices that looks good on her without being gaga over the label...
She's still pining over the Juicy skirts which weren't there any longer.
;)
fun times

It was only a matter of time before she bloomed :) How much fun you two
must have had!
