Thank Goodness for a Good Samaritan (not fashion related)

"Jamie" <zuschlag–sequ...@tds.net>
I just got back from Sam's club. I went to see if I could find some more
silk/cotton blend polos in my DH's size that I had seen a couple of weeks
ago. Really good price on these – $8 or so and they launder beautifully.
But when ironed, they shine. Anyway, had my mom with me and my 2 children,
3 and 1. My 3 year old wanted me to play with him on the air hockey
machine, which we did for awhile. I remember asking my mom to keep an eye
on my purse (in the cart) since she was more interested in the game than the
cart. After that the 3 year old had to go to the bathroom, and when we
returned, the 1 year old screamed every time he saw me so mom said that we
should split up and shop separately since he was fine when I wasn't in
sight. About an hour later we were ready to leave, with mom in the checkout
line (which was long) and me walking the 1 (still unhappy) and 3 year olds
around while waiting. As we approached the cashier, I looked in the cart.
Famous last words. "Where's my purse?!"
Mom said she remembered me taking it out of the cart at the air hockey
machine. I ran through the store with Dr. Scholls wooden clogs flopping
wildly and my 1 year old (who was at his wit's end by now) bouncing mightily
in my arms. Straight back to the hockey machine; no purse. Then I ran to a
couple of other places and on to the membership desk. My heart beat like a
jackhammer as I pushed my way past 8 customers to announce in a stage
whisper that I had lost my purse! My heart stopped as she replied that a
purse had been turned in and that security had it! I have been that
relieved only a couple of times in my life. My purse is FULL of everything
that we are not supposed to carry but realistically need most of the time.
Mine and the kids' social security cards, credit cards, debit card, driver's
license, $$ (the least of my worry), my car and house keys (house address on
checkbook in wallet and driver's license); just everything. I was so
worried that someone would take my vehicle in the parking lot and leave all
of us with no way home. It would have been fairly easily identified. My
poor mom, never one to be flustered (mom to 8), was visibly so. She was
worried that she'd had some hand in not watching out for it – she didn't.
Anyway, good things do happen and people, in general, are good. Good
Samaritan, thank you for the good that you did today. I will do good for
someone else to repay you.
PS – I bought 2 Anne Klein capped sleeve T–Shirts, white and black $6 each
1 Cotton/silk blend black ribbed polo $8
2 Geoffrey Beene washable wool dress slacks, beautiful
black and charcoal $25 each
1 Jean jacket with stretch, fitted at the waist and
slightly flared at hem (reminiscent of the peplum style I was looking for)
$26
1 6 Pack of Hanes Signature underwear for DH $8.88
1 Greg Norman white piquet polo $19 (no deal but he
needed the white since it is a hard color to keep fresh)
1 Serving set of 4 interchangeable rectangular stoneware
platters in fiesta colors – cream, yellow, blue, red – with wire rack $25
And most importantly (after my day)
1 Bottle of Veuve Clicquot (this will be gone tonight I
assure you)

Whew! I knew from the subject line that there was a happy ending, but I
know that terrible feeling when something like that is missing. So glad
you got it back intact.

Wow, all that at Sams? Nice haul! I saw that platter set when I was in
there the other day, but it was on a higher shelf and I didn't get it
down to look closer. I bought a pair of CK bootcut jeans for $26.xx,
since they don't have dressing rooms I was taking a chance but I figured
I could take them back if they didn't fit. Got 'em home and they fit so
nice, I went back the next day and bought another pair. It was the
smallest size they had though, so if I lose all the weight I want to
I'll have to look elsewhere. Oh well, will cross that bridge when I come
to it–– I'm sure I'll muddle through somehow. <g> My husband likes the
Greg Norman shirts, I'll have to check for those the next time I'm in
there. That jean jacket sounds nice too, I might have to look for that
as well!

Hee! Well, the smallest they carry is a 6, so it's not like I'm whinging
about shrinking out of my 2s or anything. <g> I'm 5 feet tall (and also
quite curvy) and would be thrilled at a size 4. But I ain't complaining
at a 6, either (shh, y'all, don't tell me it's vanity sizing)!
And I meant this in exactly the way you took it! The best way.

Yeah, pretty good stuff! I'm certainly lucky that all my shopping was done
BEFORE I realized that my purse was gone because we were shot after that!
I haven't taken that platter set out of the box yet but it was out on
display here and looked very nice. I look forward to using it during the
holidays and beyond. I agree about the clothes and the dressing room
situation but what can you do – just what you did. I am curvy – translate
to relatively small waist (not as small as I'd like) and noticeably larger
hips so I'm always loathe to buy their pants because they're an hour away
and if I have to return it's a pain. That said, I saw those CK bootcut
jeans but dared not buy any since I'm not sure how CK fits me. By the way,
I'm playing the smallest fiddle in the world for you that you had to take
their smallest size! Yuh! I did buy a pair of the Liz C classic jeans in a
12 which fit just right I'm pleased to say (that was on my last trip). The
Greg Norman shirt is very nice. It is the nubby kind and has nice collar
detail. They also had tables and tables of men's shirts (mostly various
polos) in their entry area. I only looked briefly. I have never known of
them to have a "clearance" per se but that looked like what it was.
The champagne was wonderful! Sam's has pretty good pricing on Veuve and I'm
trying to figure how I can take 3 bottles on the plane with me when I travel
to Vegas at the end of next month!

P.S. WG, that jean jacket fits wonderfully. It wasn't exactly what I was
looking for but having small children necessitates making things work. It
differs in that it has vertical panels. It's nipped in at the waist and
flares slightly at hip (not hugely). It didn't make my hips look huge. The
stretch is wonderful. I tried on a M which was perfect without buttoning
and it was highly comfortable across the back when moving but decided on a L
to accommodate layering underneath.

Ours has a few clearance items on a shelf in the back, but it seems to
be mostly display models (discontinued printers and such) and damaged items.

No champagne in my Sam's.....@mn Kansas liquor laws. I'd have to hit one
of the Missouri stores for that.

Sounds nice! Now I will definitely have to go back and check that out.
Thanks for the tip!
