soft definition for curly/wavy hair

"JKY" <g...@cox.net>
hey curly girls out there I need help. My hair is curly in back and more
wavy on the sides. I am trying to get soft/non frizzy definition to my hair
and cant seem to get it right. Some products make my hair all "crunchy and
kinda stiff" other just leave if still frizzy and kinda dirty feeling. I
just want soft, frizz less curls and waves. Does anyone know of a product
that can help me achieve this? I am now using TIGI Fashionista Smooth and
shine (seems to "crunchy") and TIGI Shine Junkie (not enough definition).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your hair sounds lots like mine. I've had some success with Bumble & Bumble
Curl Conscious creme. No frizz, very soft curls and waves. Also, absolutely
no danger of that crunchy look.

I find the cheap stuff works the best––I'd die without my Loreal Gel 2 Mousse.
Works like a dream for volume and hold without being too crunchy.

I recently ordered products from www.jessicurl.com, and am *quite* pleased
with them.
The spray gel will not leave your hair crunchy.

Lately, I've been using Philip B's leave–in conditioner first with a blob
of Redken's Outshine on top. Outshine is one of the best light
hold/styling cream combos I've used. It's the only hair product (aside
from Philip B's shampoo and conditioner) that I buy over and over again.
If it's super humid outside, I find that a small blob of Philip B's styling
cream mixed with Outshine provides more hold and curl definition without
any "hard hair".

Fig –
Is your hair fine or thick? I have fine but wavy hair and am looking for
a leave–in conditioner that won't weigh my hair down.
Thx.

It's fine and curly. Philip B's will work for you. Bumble & Bumble's is
good too.

not fig but if you use a tiny bit (less than size of a quarter) you will be
fine. put in palm, emulsify and then start from back to front working into
ends

Thanks! Yesterday I tried some mousse I had lieing (laying?) around and
it definitely made my hair too crunchy. But after I caught in a
rinstorm after work I got the most adorable ringlets :–). I'll start
looking for the Phillip B.

In that case (and assuming that you have time), you could always spritz your
hair during the crunchy stage to decrunchify it!

Duh – Good idea. I've been trying to figure out to get those "high
humidity" curls without the humidity! When I lived near the ocean it was
easier!

I forgot to mention in my post that I apply my products to damp hair and
let it air dry. In fact, I often wash it at night and sleep on it because
the curls are softer looking in the morning.

I second this – I towel blot, then wait at least a half hour til hair
is just a bit damp – then use a dryer set on low heat.
Love 'Potion 9' and won't buy rinseout conditioners ever again.

I have straight hair, however, I have read many fantastic reviews for both
Fredric Fekkai's Glossing Cream and Kiehl's Silk & Groom Cream...they are
pretty much identical, but I have heard good reviews for both from women
with curly hair who don't want "crunchies" and I also use it on my straight
hair.

I tend to like water based "waxes" like Fekkai's Crystal Pomade and Redken
Water Wax. However, I apply them while my hair is still wet. If your hair is
as coarse as mine is then applying it on dry hair just makes it look greasy
on the top with drier frizz on the lower layers.

If you do get a crunchy feel to your hair, you only have to run your fingers
through it gently to break it up. That's what I do.

i second the fekkai glossing creme, but i use it to make my hair silky–
smooth and shiny when i straighten it. when i do waves, i use redken
lush whip. i apply to almost–dry hair after styling/scrunching.

some products I like
the new leave in conditioner from Phillip B
Ouidad's line cannot be beat but it's not inexpensive
Hamadi leave in conditioner. a teeny tiny bit
I find TIGI too hard to deal with. Have the B&b stuff but haven't gotten
there yet
I like glossing creme and the silk groom but less is more is the best way to
approach it. at least with MY hair it's MUCH less is more

Summertime is when I can't fight the curls...I just have to go with it. It's
all about air–drying, using a good conditioner in the shower, and not using a
towel to take too much water out of your hair. I scrunch w/Biolage mousse (I
will cry if they discontinue this). I then add a dab of John Frieda Frizzease
Wind down relaxing creme w/a drop of Loreal gelling curls (the tiniest
dab)...and scrunch again with this conglomerate. No frizz. You must air dry
though. Blowdryers and curls=frizz.

I'm using Schwarzkopf Osis Twist for good definition and waves/curls
without the crunch. I don't get frizzy, so don't know if this would
control the frizz, but the definition is good. Also, you might want to
check Alterna Hemp Seed Texturizing Glaze. I use that one with a
diffuser for really soft curls with pretty good hold.

I really like the Kiehl's formula 133 (use as leave–in), Phytologie
Phyto 9, and Nature's Therapy (at Sally beauty) Mega Moisture
Nurturing Creme and Perfect Curls Defining Creme. All leave my curly
hair soft and non–frizzy. I know what you're talking about with the
crunchy hair––it seems like so many products do that. I find that if
I stick to cream products rather than gel–based products or sprays
that I don't get crunchy.
"Debra D" <debly...@optonline.net>
I use first leave in condition by Lanza...let air dry a
little....then...Rusk Wired and let air dry a little, then use Paul Mitchell
Extra Body Styling Gel..then spray a little Redken Lift and Shine.
