buying diamond stud earrings / Kwiat

squoval <...@you.com>
Hello all,
I think I am going to finally buy a pair of diamond stud earrings. So
the question I have is does the "name" really matter? Beyond the 4c's
of quality, does anything else matter?
In particular, I thought about buying .25 carats studs from Kwiat.
Nordstrom has these on the anniversary sale. Would I just be paying
for the name? I was browsing the Blue Nile website and even with the
sale price their's are less expensive and have better clariy and
color.
The nordstrom SA said that I would be able to upgrade the studs at
anytime (larger carat) and get the full value towards it. This entices
me somewhat.
Thoughts? thanks!

In my experience no (when you're talking about simple studs). You should
like the setting of your studs. but other than that, the 4 Cs are what
matter, not the brand name.

I don't know about "just" but you would be paying for the name, yes.

The 4 Cs are what matter. I think Blue Nile gets its diamonds from
DeBeers. I'd also be surprised if Kwiat had many other suppliers than
DeBeers. If you're starting with .25 ct, I'd rec going with the best of
the Cs you can muster, no matter what brand they are. Diamonds are
diamonds.

My thoughts are that the SA wanted to make a sale. ;)

Many jewelry stores will do this for items bought from them. Keep your
receipts!

Kwiat is a well established jewelry company and they are at the Oscars
every year. Their items are definitely killer..... really really cool.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will keep shopping around. Is it
safe to assume that if it has a GIA cert that it will be okay? I don't
think get a pair of small studs appraised would be practical :)

Yes, but make sure you're buying it from somewhere reputable because
certs are easily forged. By that I mean don't buy something that fell off
a truck just because the price is right and it has a GIA cert with it. ;)

No, it wouldn't. Depending on to whom you go to for an appraisal, it
might nearly pay for a small pair of studs.
