Clothes shopping for the recently reduced?

"Judy&Fido" <Judy&F...@Chickenleg.com>
OK, it's a weird dilemma but...As manyof you know, I've recently lost a
bunch of weight. So, for the 1st time in 5 years I find myself able to shop
for "regular" womens clothes. Well, I marched into Mervyns and you know
what? I was so intimidated by the huge number of clothes to choose from that
I froze. For 5 years I've been shopping almost exclusively at Lane Bryant
and most of their stuff is setup so that outfits are pre–planned. Suddenly I
find myself awash with seperates and I'm kindof, well...lost. Everything
went from sparkling and new to scary. I love floaty stuff, cashmere, and
very feminine clothing. Can anybody recommed either shops (I live in San
Diego, California) or online catalogs that might fit that description? I'm
size 10, female, 5'4".
Who would have thought???
Thanks, Judy

Go into any of the departments stores like Robinsons May, Macys,
Bloomingdales. All of the clothes are lined up with what goes with what. I
would recommend the sections that have Ralph Lauren, DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger,
Jones New York.

Congratulations, Judy. The new lines at Banana Republic have some beautifully
feminine things, from satin camisoles to wear under suits to pretty floaty
black dresses and gorgeous nubby jackets. The whole pink/black/off white color
scheme was everywhere today as I shopped, and maybe it's easier if you just
adopt a color scheme and start with that. Then you can gravitate towards
colors instead of being overwhelmed.
Once you've gotten a few pieces (a skirt, pants, and 2 tops) then you can add a
dress and maybe a jacket & feel like you've gotten a good start & branch out to
new colors. Also, if you coordinate your new things, it'll be easier to
accessorize with shoes, etc.
It all depends on your budget & your taste, but you will find pretty things
everywhere from the Limited to Saks, and I would suggest just doing some online
cruising. If you google a past thread about "favorite shopping websites,
you'll find many good ideas. Maybe Anthropologie, Express, Bebe, Arden B and
Banana Republic are good starting points.
Enjoy the fun! Lucky you!

Congratulations. I frequently get the same kind of sensory overload when I go
to department stores. Maybe you need to go shopping when it's relatively quiet.
Or just limit yourself to looking for one item.
Or you can go shopping with the idea of not buying anything but just trying on
a lot of outfits to see what works for you.
Do you have a good friend whose taste you really respect? Take her with you.

Judy, if it were me I would probably steer clear of department stores while I'm
getting used to my new look. I'd try some of the smaller stores like Casual
Corner or places like that. The clothes in these stores tend to be arranged more
the way you're used to, with separates that coordinate together placed near one
another in the store. Also, the SAs in stores like this are really good at
helping you find things that go together to make an outfit, like if you find a
sweater you love but you just don't know what to wear with it.
Barring that, I'd stick with department stores that have personal shoppers on
staff. Just tell them your size and your preferences and they should be able to
find all kinds of options for you.
Many congrats on the weight loss!

maybe you can look at magazines or ads for clothing and see which outfits you
like. and then you can shop for those specific clothes or something similar for
the type of look you are going for.
