I think Hakama are pretty manly. They both come in a full skirt and a pant
form, both look pretty nice. You can easily find them on the internet
because they are required for some martial arts uniforms, such as Kendo.
Good luck!

since i'm going to assume you don't mean crossdressing (which is often more
about passing than attractiveness to the opposite gender)but straight out
genderbending fun... skirts on men. yum.
What types of skirts would you consider manly. Other than kilts.
hmm. mid calf to knee length in general. too short can be tacky, ankle
length is too... femme, depending on the style. Morticia skirts generally
don't flatter guys, gathers do.
Would you comment to a man in a skirt (total stranger) that it did or did
not look good on him.
I'd try to be supportive even if I didn't think he looked good; men in
skirts can have fragile egos.
What should men wear with skirts?
um, whatever feels good? a basic black tee, a pleated black brocade skirt
(knee length), black socks/fishnets and great boots will look great on
either guys or girls, in my twisted opinion.

I think it would be nice if more men were wearing skirts/kilts. Besides, I
can only imagine that it would be much more comfortable for guys (and
their goods) during the hot months than pants! Utilikilts.com used to
specialize in what you'd call "manly" skirts, I don't know if they're
around anymore, but I remember being impressed with some of their stuff.
Can't hurt to web–window shop!

From a completely personal and biased point of view (you did ask for my
opinion), I really like them, so long as they look like mens skirts, and not
just a woman's skirt on a man.
What types of skirts would you consider manly. Other than kilts.
Utilikilts are great, although length is key, I think. Too short and it
looks like a cheerleading outfit, too long and it begins to look matronly.
Right at the kneecap is ideal, I believe.
I also really love sarongs, or island–wear.

No – I doubt I would comment anything either way to a total stranger. I
don't think it's really my business to be telling random people what they
should or shouldn't be wearing. On the other hand, if I were to start, I
think there are a lot of people other than men in skirts that would get a
serious talking–to from yours truly.
In general, I'm greatly in favor of men in skirts. I think that the courage
and boldness it takes to wear one in public at all is damn sexy, regardless
of the actual way he looks. I also think the double standards in male vs.
female fashion are completely rediculous.
What should men wear with skirts?
Short answer – anything he likes. But my preference is for men to still look
masculine. If he is well–built, I particularly like something like a fitted
(not skin–tight, though) tee and hiking or combats boots. Mmmmm, yes – nice!

What does it matter if the skirt looks "manly"? There is no reason
that I man cannot add a little feminine flare to his wardrobe. After
all, women add men's items to their wardrobes all of the time.
I usually wear pantyhose and women's sandals with my skirts.

It only matters if it matters to the person wearing the skirt (or any other
item). I think, since he asked, that perhaps he isn't interested in overly
feminine styles. Other than that, by all means – wear what you like!

I remember a line of men's skirts that came out back in the late
1980s. The clothing line failed very quickly due to lack of sales.
If you are going to wear a skirt, I would probably suggest only doing
so in a more "progressive" area such as NYC or LA.

My personal thought is this: If it looks good, then great. Go ahead
and wear it. :–)
In regards to what kind of skirt looks good on a man? I'd go with:
(A) Pleated skirt hanging just at the bottom of the knee–cap (this is
the whole "kilt" thing) can look quite "manly" –– possibly with a
muscle shirt?
(B) Long (ankle length) straight skirts or narrow A–lines (in velvet,
nylon, etc.) tend to look good with below–the–hip tops like, for
example, a "Mao Jacket" or possibly a frock coat.
If I like a person's outfit, I tend to mention it to them. :–)
Otherwise, I generally keep quiet. ;–)
I agree, it's all about Utilikilts.com –– however, I don't think it
would be *too* hard to sew a kilt... (sort of like a short sari with a
waist–band, but without the traily bit...) So if you sew, you could
give that a go. (Uh–oh, I've started rhyming... this can't be good.
;–)
Good luck, my dear,

Guys can easily wear a denim skirt or he can wear an A–line or pleats
just above the knee with a matching blazer over a crew neck top. Very

i don't think skirts are 'manly' but i don't consider 'manliness' to be the
most important issue in a man's clothing choices.

Wearing a skirt sort of defeats the purpose unless you wear it topless
otherwise I'd probably opt for hot pants so I wouldn't have to be conscious
of my movements

What are your general opinions on men wearing skirts.
Very cool.
What types of skirts would you consider manly. Other than kilts.
Don't you reckon the word "manly" is incredibly camp? I think the only
people who would describe themselves as 'manly' are purposely sending
themselves up. Or German.
But, to answer the question. Check out http://www.menintime.de/ ,
http://www.amok.ch/ , http://www.dracinabox.co.uk/ and
http://www.heavyred.com/ , all of which sell skirts designed for men.
All a tad pricey, needless to say.
I have a skirt from menintime.de and it is incredibly good. Having
previously tried doing 'the look' with a womens' skirt from an
op–shop, having one which is designed for male hips and legs is a vast
improvement in the way it looks. It also doesn't feel in any way
unusual, just like a pair of longish shorts.
Would you comment to a man in a skirt (total stranger) that it did or did
not look good on him.
I'd comment if it did look good, but not if it didn't. Not everyone is
as polite as I, though.
I think the key to avoiding hassle is comporting yourself so as people
understand that a) you realise that you are wearing a skirt and that
this is somewhat unusual; b) that it's completely deliberate; and c)
you don't think there's anything wrong with it so sod off. To that
end, *don't* go the minimalist approach, (unless it's a kilt, which
has a degree of social acceptability orders of magnitude greater and
can be worn any which way), dress flamboyantly. Wear a t–shirt with an
offensive slogan if you feel so inclined. Wear makeup if you do that
too. That said, don't go to a complete rednecksville where that'll
only make things worse. Also, there are times when the situation will
see that it makes perfect sense to others why you would be wearing a
skirt. I'd wear one to a goth club (obviously. If you can't there,
then where else in the world?), party, event of carnivalesque nature,
or heatwave.
What should men wear with skirts?
Boots, first and foremost. The bigger the better, and flat–heeled. The
best are those that are knee–length, but they're goddamn expensive.
Failing that, long black socks. Stripey tights. Plain tights.
T–shirts. T–shirts over long–sleeved Bonds tops. Makeup.
Don't discount pants either. A shortish skirt over narrow–cut trousers
with or without long boots can look great. It's the androgynous
silhouette of a skirt, with the security and backup of pants! :)
Thanks –Jacob
A pleasure. –Droneboy

It depends on the person wearing them, really. Other then that,
something denim is popular, pleated is popular as well. As for length,
something about knee hight, below or above to what feels comfortable.
Many people hate to hear this, but something similar to a kilt or
neokilt is what is considered manly, for now.

Hell yeah. But only for a positive comment. Believe me, it's nice to

Depends. What is the situation? If you are going to the beach, or a
picnic, then some sandals. Are you going to be walking a lot, then maybe
some sneakers? Going to a party, maybe some leather boots? Just like
pants or shorts, it depends on what you are going to be doing.

The shorts that were popular in 2002 and 2003 are so long and the legs
are so flared out that they're practically already (2–legged) skirts,
and they're already starting to look like skirts.
