I have been converted! Mine, too, took exactly an hour. And it was
circa Rodeo Drive: the perfect place for my first time!

Me, too. I had my first one a couple of months ago, now I'm hooked. I had
resisted for a number of reasons:
1. I'm ticklish.
2. They are feet. Who cares?
I hear you; it's a cosmetic thing and also, the perfect thing to do if
your dogs are tired! It's so relaxing & reinvigorating!!!

Welcome to happy feet land. Watch how suddenly you need one every month,
or less. I cannot begin to match the magic my technician performs on my
feet. Worth every cent! Enjoy!

I resisted pedicures all my life, too–they're feet, cover them up in
shoes, who cares. So I had this pedicure that took an hour and
they SHAVED piles of dead skin off my feet (sorry to sound gross
but the dead skin was like a pile of dead leaves). Then they
painted my toes and I started wearing sandals all the time and got
compliments on how pretty my feet are –so, yes, its worth it!

though the women who does my pedicure DOES shave any callous off my feet, it remains illegal for pedicurist (a word?) to
cut/shave with razors. (in wisconsin)

I get 3 or 4 pedicures a year (mainly for callous removal and
massage/indulgence), and I have to say that razors do a FAR better job of
removing callouses and dead skin than pumice stones or other abrasives.
I don't use one at home though – a nasty cut a few years ago cured me of
the practice.

................ I was also told by more than one
pedicurist that shaving the skin off is really not helpful in that the skin
accumulates more quickly.
i'm not sure i believe that........................could be something that was made up, to cover for a lack of being
able to "shave" with razors.

That's what I thought too, until I got a pedicure in Germany, and she told
me that too. The razors are used quite frequently over here and I *do* like
it. They also have these machines that have different bits that are used
for polishing up toenails, rough patches, calluses, etc...The best pedicures
I've ever had. I think they are called medical pedicures.

Maniquick makes several of these units.
Euro–Pro and Homedics have cheaper versions. The diamond and sapphire cone
attachments do the work of a Diamancel.

For the jolly good reason that the skimming of the skin off the foot
is risky for the introduction of infection. Apparently one doesn't
need to cut into the skin and draw blood for the risk of infection
to be there. I'm not sure if podiatrists, who are registered with
the medical council and whose training is quite lengthy, are able to
cut into the build up of dead skin. Pedicurists are only trained to
beautify the foot and do the very basics.
Regular work with a foot file keeps feet soft and smooth, and then
there are the special foot exfoliation products which help for those
really rough patches that the foot file just scratches.
