Who Do You Dress For?

"KM" <kthyn...@aol.com>
x–no–archive: yes
Lisa and Cheryl's posts got me to thinking. I am a big proponent of not
letting a man control you and I guess I was getting a little irritated by
Lisa and Cheryl letting their boyfriends boss them around on their
expenditures. It's one thing a husband, but a boyfriend who is not putting
the bread on the table, no way, Jose.
So my question is, who do you dress for? Is it for yourself, your husband,
your boyfriend, your children, you go purely by the fashion magazines or do
you do it for your women friends. For the men, insert appropriate name,
wife, girlfriend, etc.
I dress purely for myself, to please myself. I will consider my husband's
input, but my word is the last word.

I dress for myself. I would never let anyone dictate anything to me.
Especially how to dress. My family likes the way I dress so it's not an
issue, here. I sometimes ask for his opinion but I already know the answer!
:)

Myself, my wife, my friends, my customers, strangers on the street, people
like me, people different from me, people I've never met, and everyone else
who shapes the culture I live in.

Unless you live in a vacuum, this simply isn't true. We all function in
society, and society sets all sorts of rules for how we dress. I don't
simply mean rules like "no white after labor day", but also rules about how
someone who is college educated, lives in this neighborhood, is running to
the store, goes to the Methodist church, has two kids, votes moderate to
liberal, and watches NBC dresses. These rules are built into our own
preferences and aesthetic sensibilities.

You are actually right. Did I mention I have a really nice pair of blinders
I wear when the occasion calls for it. (g)
I am not Methodist, but I was raised in a religion where we didn't wear
jewelry. I still feel guilty buying or wearing jewelry. My husband on the
otherhand loves me to wear jewelry, but I do win out in the decision whether
I will or not.
