Almost Black, at home haircolor?

christylynn...@yahoo.com (Christy)
Hello there,
I am looking to dye my hair very dark brown, but not black. Until
this point I have gotten the color done in a salon, but I stopped
getting highlights a year ago and just get the dark brown color, so I
want to try doing it myself to save money. The problem is that I do
not want any red tones, but I don't want it to be flat or boring. I
was considering Feria Espresso...I just googled Feria and it seems
like most opinions were on the reds or reddish colors. It seems like
Espresso is one of the few brown Ferias with no red. I'm not sure if
it will be dark enough...I may do a strand test, but don't want to
waste money if I can help it!
About me...my hair has been colored for a decade, but is healthy, is
currently dark brown, I have pale, pink undertoned skin and blue eyes.
Anyone have any luck getting a vibrant really dark brown but not black
color at home?
Thanks!

I used either Clairol Natural Instincts or L'Oreal Castings/Color Spa in
Espresso. It was too dark of a brown for me. ::sigh:: I was going for the
same color, forgot the name and knew it was something to drink.

Then go back to the salon, where strand testing will be part of making up
your color formula. Good results are worth the time and expense.
<plus you'll see what your colorist is using on you, but don't let them
know
I told you that>

the
Lol. Brown colors seem to be named after different coffee drinks or
chocolates.
Or woods (Mahogany is a common one) or spices (some brand makes a dye in
"Nutmeg", Clairol NI Maybe?). But what are they going to name brown
colors after? Dirt? They always try to find "pretty" sounding names for
hair colors.
After all, black dyes are always things like "Raven", "Ebony", or
"Midnight", etc., no one ever names a black dye "Tar" or "Coal" or
"Motor Oil".

I see a niche in the market for Urban Decay hair color. Can you imagine?
