Has your moisturizer ever gotten MOLDY?

archer1...@yahoo.com (Wendy)
This is a new one to me! About 9–10 months ago I bought a jar of
Burt's Bees' Marshmallow Vanishing Creme. Smells great and a little
goes a long way...I've found it a little too heavy for summer
moisturizing, so I haven't been using it every day. Anyway, last night
I was going to put some on before bedtime and was stunned to see that
there was *greenish mold* growing in there...covering an area the size
of a quarter. I was stunned – I've never had a moisturizer or any
cosmetic get moldy. The jar was in my bathroom closet, along with
other products (which are doing just fine). I can't imagine that I
should have been refrigerating this product! I sent an email to Burt's
Bees asking them to explain why this happened, but I'm curious as to
whether anyone else has ever seen mold.

Lipsticks and eye pencils I have noticed mold on. I try not keep too many
lipsticks because I end up throwing them away. I have had milk products turn
sour.

My astara masks all molded. I think it's due to a lack of
preservatives –– though for as much as they cost me, I think they ought
to have lasted longer.

My Burt's Bees lip balm went funky within a month of my receiving
it. It smelled just gross. Some sort of Burt's Bees cream that came in
a sample pack turned black around the edges within the same length of
time. I pitched all of it.

I had a new bottle of philosophy body cream get some sort of runny
black mold in it. I was also quite shocked. It had to have been
contaminated either at the factory in the store because I hadn't
opened it, but it had been in my closet for several months.

Fig,
Thanks, I should have thought to ask you before I tossed them (though I
didn't buy them from you, you're always helpful!).

Cindyetta, I wish you had told me (whether you bought them from me or
not). I'd have been happy to help you out with Astara!
