I was at Walmart at jewelry counter waiting to get battery in my watch and
looked up and saw the term "handbag" in that department.

timey
term.
My favorite description generically though is still "handbag." And to me it
just
sounds a bit more refined.
They do speak of "keeper of the purse strings." So I would agree purse is more timey
term.
