Boots...does ankle height work for you?

shown.
I have knee high and ankle high black boots, but unless my pants are really

ankle high boots are worthless. My daughters think all boots should be knee

I know many of you own lots of boots in different styles and heights. What

I want to buy a pair of brown boots when I'm in New York next month. Most
of the ones I've seen this fall have been in black except for a pair of
Ferragamos that
are too expensive for me. In spite of having a lot of brown and green for
fall, I get
more use out of black shoes and boots.

I must agree with your daughters on this. Knee high is the best
and most versatile height in my opinion. Calf height is okay
with pants though I wouldnt' pair them with skirts. Supposedly
over the knee is also in for fall. In the magazines they pair
them with all sorts of skirts: pencil, mini, etc.
I really can't wait for cooler weather so I can wear my boots again.

I don't know. These chocolate brown boots of mine are pretty versatile.

If I could find knee high boots that fit my legs (I have very very
skinny legs) I would definately prefer them. However, I can't and find
that since I wear most of my pants really really long anyway, the
ankle length suits me just fine. I do have one pair of black knee high
boots that fit my legs, and have been searching for the same pair (or
similar) for quite some time.
Like Veronica, I've been seeing and hearing a lot about over the knee
boots. But I just don't think I can pull that off.

I guess my boots would be called ankle length, but they hit me a good few
inches above my ankle. They work with jeans and any pair of pants that I own.
For me, higher boots would be a waste and would probably be uncomfortable under
pants.
I like the look of knee–length boots with skirts (on other people). I'm a
long–legged petite, but I don't want to break the line with a pair of boots. I
personally do not like boots that go above the knee.
As far as calf–length boots, I have seen them worn with a skirt, and they
looked good. It really depends on the outfit and the person wearing the boots.

I think this is about the only valid statement any of us can make about what is
the "best" boot length. I have ankle–high black boots with 2 1/2" heels that
tuppence (Miss Charlotte) once described as "witchy and Victorian"; these work
beautifully with pants and also with long skirts.
Once again...it all depends.

I have lots of boots in various heights, and my favorites over the last 2 years
have been my lace–up franco sarto ankle high boots. They have a moderately
high heel, and a moderate square–ish toe and they are perfect with pants &
jeans.
I get almost as much wear out of my knee–high pointy toed kitten heeled frown
suede boots, which I bough in light blue as well.
last, but certainly not least, I have red ankle–high boots that are worn with
jeans, and knee high black boots, which I've almost worn to death. I am
replacing them this year with BR's tall leather boots, though they are a tad
loose in the calf and not as tall as I'd like, the heel and toe are perfect,
and I got them for 30% off, so I will keep them.
bottom line: ankle boots work for me as long as the pants are long enough, and
knee–high boots are definitely best with skirts.

My daughter thinks Franco Sartos are the best buy for boots because of the
comfortable fit. She has
three pairs of them. She is your height but thinks the ankle boots are too
risky unless her slacks are
almost to the ground. I need to research Franco. She read that he was an
engineer.

I am always careful about the socks I wear, because invariably when I sit down,
or cross my legs, the top of my boot will show. I have an amazing socks
collection so they are always worth a glimpse anyway.
But if I want a totally clean look, I wear knee–high boots. I'm just not crazy
about doing it under pants because it gets awfully hot under there! It's just
not cold enough in Portland to warrant the extra coverage!
Franco makes the most comfortable shoes in my closet (considering I don't wear
sneakers or birks or danskos or anything like that)

Brrrrr, I think so, but Portland is a great city.

I don't like those low ankle boots (nor over the knee boots), but I do like
those above the ankle calf boots which are perfect when wearing pants. When
wearing skirts (knee length or longer), I love knee high boots (just below,
that is), but they are just too uncomfortable when wearing pants. I can
also wear my mid calf boots with skirts, but not the lower calf boots.

I have 2 pair of just–above–ankle height that work really great –– with
pants, of course. The shoes themselves are really attractive. But
because I'm short, long, full skirts work pretty well, too, with my
brown ones, which are lace–up. I get compliments all the time, as if

Probably why they are called booties as versus boots. If my ankle shows,
they aren't boots.

I used to have skinny calves too, but I started doing calve raises which
helped the problem. Just keep at them and you will develop some muscle.

I think that people define *ankle boots* in different ways, which may
be part of the issue. The type that I call *booties* that come just
to the ankle don't create a very clean line with most pants. Other
ankle boots that come to anywhere above from just above the ankle bone
to about 1/3 of the way up the calf create a nicer line. In fact, I
often wear 1/3 to 1/2 length calf boots under my long skirts as well.
While knee length boots would look fine at the ankle, you would have
to make sure that they don't create a line at the knee. As a personal
preference, I would be too warm and uncomfortable in knee high boots
under pants.

I agree, booties look weird. I like wearing above–ankle boots with
bootcut pants, and knee–high boots only with dresses or skirts. I
don't like to wear knee–high boots unless it's downright cold.
I've never had a pair of calf–length boots other than cowboy boots
years ago, but recently got a Coach catalog that showed a pair of
calf–length, kitten–heeled boots with little pockets on the sides. I
really liked them but am not sure what kind of clothing they would
work with.

Hmmm...good question. I've got boots from "bootie" height all the way
up to over the knee.
I find nidcalf is most useful for me. Knee high under pants gets a bit
unwieldy after a long day, IMO.
I also aim for ankle boots that are a tad above the ankle, so they work
under pants.

If I could find knee high boots that fit my legs (I have very very
skinny legs) I would definately prefer them. However,
I have the same problem (thin calves), so I look for boots made out of
stretchy material. I have a pair of Anne Klein knee–high boots make out of
black spandex–like material, and a pair of brown suede/stretch knee highs I
got last year from Nine West. Both pairs fit like a glove and are really
sexy.
I was also told that you can have the calves taken in at a good shoe repair
shop. I have not tried this though.
I have a couple of pairs of ankle boots that I wear under jeans and slacks.
For some reason the layering of knee highs and pants together bugs me.
