Re: New York City Shopping

can't help with H&M but I've been to most of the Ricky's in NYC (they changed a
lot over the years and used to be way better) but I was most impressed with the
one on 72nd btwn Broadway/Columbus. It's huge and has a great selection! hth!

Biggest and best stocked H&M is at Rock Center (5th Ave). Soho is
smaller and younger/trendier.
IMO the best Rickys for hair stuff is at Columbus Circle, but (a) for
anything else most of the other locations are fine, and (b) there's
nothing there that's all that amazing. It's convenient if you live here,
but it's not worth the trip if you're here for a limited time. Can't you
buy hair dye at home?

Thank you, everyone, for the recommendations!

I agree. Ten years ago, Ricky's used to be worth the trip for nice,
inexpensive
brushes and their private label makeup––they knocked off the Bobbi Brown
pale
yellow powder. I don't think
they carry anything special these days.
Alcone is a crowded little store and the help is not very nice, but they
have
lots of testers and products that are hard to find in many parts of the
country. Try to get a catalog beforehand and come in with a list of
products
you want to see.

Excellent point. I'll be in New York next month and I want to go mostlyto
the stores I can't find in CA.
My daughters want me to look for things for them at H&M. I want to find
decent knockoffs and items
that are great buys. I'll still probably hit the Mega B's as Frayed refers
to them because I have good luck
for me in department stores. I prefer to shop for clothes, shoes and
accessories when I am on a
vacation.

Email me some pictures of the big city. Strangley enough, I will be flying
to NYC this weekend myself. Virtually of course. I'm in Miami and picked
that as my next destination.

I don't need to travel to find world–class shopping – I live Southern Cal.
I saw Ricky's on the Style Channel and it looked like it was a bit more
fun
than the average Beauty Supply store. Planet Beauty here in Newport Beach
is incredible. And all the entertainment industry beauty supply stores
are
an hour's drive away.
I don't plan to do much shopping on this trip – I shopped for two full
days
this past weekend.
