Can you stick to a regimen?

JACQUE...@webtv.net (Jackki5)
You have those ladies who can easily jump into practicaly any kind of
regimen, and on the other hand, there's women like me.
I have the hardest time sticking to regimens. Beauty regimines, exercise
regimens, organizational regimines...you name it!
Is there anyone out there who used to be like this and have since
changed their ways? Do you have any tips.

You have to psyche yourself out. You have to visualize your goal. Picture
yourself thin, in the clothes you want to be wearing, things like that. It
is all a psychological game. We often cannot accomplish goals if we are a
little or a lot depressed. What Nike says, just do it, is a good thing. 5
minutes of exercise a day is better than no exercise and at least it is a
start.

You have to make up your mind to do it and then do it.
You need to keep at yourself, which is hard. I need to get
back into working out. The initial visit to the gym will be
like pulling teeth, after that I will remember how I love it
and keep on going. As far as organizing, you need to take
one thing at a time, mail for example and just make sure
you go through it by the trash or recycling bin, having a
place for bills, filing, etc. Believe me, just getting *this*
task nailed will save you stress, time and money. There
is no magic bullet, you basically have to kick your own
ass, and who likes to do that?

Set realistic goals. I can follow beauty regimens as long as they are
relatively easy and don't take up too much time. It's the
same for exercise, and organization. I use a daily planner and keep many
lists. I can get an amazing amount of tasks done if
I am organized and have a plan of action. My advice is not to try to change
yourself in a day, week, month or year. Decide
on what are your most important goals or what you really want to do and
arrange your life so your goal is attainable. For
example, I do not like gyms but I love to walk. I can increase my distance
and pace and use free weights and other equipment
at home so I don't have to go to a gym. What do you want from a beauty
regimen? There are great one step products to
cleanse, moisturize and protect your skin. You don't need a ten step progam
if three will do the same thing.

If it's not something you dearly love and would die to do, it takes
discipline to stick to a regimen. Discipline is created. By you. At first,
it might take practice to create the discipline you need. Don't see it as
all or nothing, keep practicing at it. My best tips for creating the
discipline you need to stick to a regimen are (1) make the regimen
realistic, challenging is OK but not unrealistic, get whatever infomation
and knowledge you need to make it realistic, (2) find a reason for doing
the regimen that is very meaningful to you, meaningful enough that it can
sustain your sticking to the regimen, (3) just start doing it, and fake it
until you make it if need be, that is, tell youself you are already there.

I saw this thread yesterday and when reading my September issue of Health last
night – there it was/such an article. In the Fitness section "Boost your Drive
to Exercise" five strategies that will keep you going, day after day. Excerpts
on women of different ages, careers and time constraints and how they conquered
it.
You may find this interesting.
