Very cool!

I knit, in fact I design for Vogue Knitting sometimes. You should check it
out,
some nice designs. McCalls seems to have easier patterns, more for the
beginner.
That sounds so cool. What are your most recent projects? One of the
administrators where I work makes
beautiful items for herself, her family and friends. I first learned how to
knit when I was a Girl Scout. I ended
up with an unfinished sweater, perhaps the same project Ruddell's wife is
making. My aunt tried to help me
but her stitches were tighter than mine. I took a class last year but
didn't like the projects or yarns so I lost
interest. My 19 year old also took a class last year and she taught my
other daughter. Well, that child was in
Florence last fall and she made many scarves and taught eight of her
classmates how to knit. It must be
contagious. This summer I am finally understanding more about what I am
doing and learning how to see my
mistakes so it is more fun.

I am just finishing up a cardigan that will go over an argyle vest for a twin
set look. I will have a lacey, sleeveless sweater in the next holiday issue of
Vogue Knitting.

I would love it if you would share the pictures with us.

I only have snaps of past sweaters, I could show you those, if you want. I will
let you know when I have the new ones.

i used to knit, but then nice wool became more hard to find, and more expensive
than a ready made sweater, so i stopped. the same thing happened with
sewing...no quality fabrics to use, so why bother?
has anyone ordered yarn on the internet??

Yes, from patternworks – although I usually see what I like in their
catalogue. Their sales people so great, so I usually order over the phone
rather than using their website, but I've ordered some stuff online as
well.
My big secret for making sweaters for less than they'd cost to buy them is
Webs in Northampton, MA. They have a *warehouse* of great yarns, a lot of
it on cones, but some put up in skeins or balls as well. My only problem
is that everytime I go there I end up with enough yarn to keep me knitting
for the rest of my life and I already *have* enough yarn for that.
Still, I don't knit in order to have something for cheaper than I could
buy it – when you factor in the cost of your time, you almost never break
even there. I knit because I enjoy the process and it makes me happy when
someone (especially a little someone) loves the sweater I made them.

Good for you! Vogue Knitting is my favorite. I had to unsubscribe
because it was making me start too many projects I couldn't finish.
