_Under_The_Tuscan_Sun_.
Someone gave me the AudioBook, but Frances Mayes' speaking voice is not, um,
her strongest suit and her sharp accent is very jarring when attempting to
pronounce all these Italian words, so I went and grabbed a papeback thereof. I
am enjoying it wildly, in preparation of a long, 2–week driving trip through
Italy in late June 2005.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a movie being released soon with
this title and starring Diane Lane?? (Under the Tuscan Sun?)

Carol,
1– I hope so. I've had a crush on Diane Lane since I was 13. (And she was 14)
2– I hope Ms. Lane will not sound like Ms. Mayes, whose particular genius lies
in crafting words, not in enunciating them.

I watched "Unfaithful" this weekend and I am blown away by her
performance, esp. by the brilliant train scene. She is a fantastic
actress.

Yes, she was very believable in that. I loved that movie and hated Richard
Gere by the time it was done.

I just finished _The Cater Street Hangman_ by Anne Perry. I found it a bit
disappointing because I figured out who the murdurer was about half way
through the book. I don't read mysteries for the plot; I see the narrative
as an entertaining way of propelling me into scenes featuring
snappy dialogue and romance and filled with descriptions of meals eaten,
clothes, interiors, cars, etc., etc. Still, it's a shame when I figure out
who the murdurer is.
I'm about to start Alexander McCall Smith's _The No. 1 Ladies' Detective

My husband was picked up by Ed Gein when he was about 13 years old. He was
camping with some kids and they decided one of them should go to town
(small
town close by) for something. He had drawn the shortest match stick and
was
the one who had to go. He didn't know it was Ed Gein who picked him up
until
the story broke about the murders. Ed Gein wouldn't let him out of his
vehicle. He reached over for a knife and my husband jumped out of the car
and ran. He told an older couple that he knew. Nothing was done of course
as
he wasn't aware of who it was. Ed Gein had also been in a neighboring town
and had poked a guy in the stomach and said "you'd make a good pot roast".
I
can't imagine being in a situation like that only to find out the man was
a
murderer and insane too...Kathy.
That is frightening. Thank goodness your husband made it out of there
alive.

My grandparents lived in the area that Ed Gein lived in. They did some
shopping at the general store where he murdered a woman. When my grandmother
and mother were alive, they showed us the place where he used to live. I
believe they burned it down. Was a nightmare what they found in his home.

Well, that's why people live in the country...to stay away from all the
violence & crime you encounter in the city!

I was living in Wisconsin when the story broke, & it was a sensation, let
me tell you. When Psycho came out, it was clear that it was based on the
Gein story––not surprising when you reflect that Bloch was a Wisconsin
writer.
