purse or briefcase?

"bethG" <NOrabbitS...@carrotpatch.net>
I need help!
As many of you know, I started a new job this week after being a housewife
for a number of years. Since there is no physical office building in this
region, each employee has a home office (they provide everything needed to
get started).
BUT!
I'm finding out that many times while out doing client meetings, I need to
have some office type supplies with me such as pens, white out, large
calendar book, etc. I'm finding it difficult to juggle carrying a purse,
which isn't large enough for any of the supplies, the calendar, client files
(I'll eventually be getting a locked box to carry them due to HIPAA) and
everything else needed.
Any suggestions for a nice large purse, satchel, briefcase, etc. MUCH
appreciated! I don't even know where to start!

It comes in other colors, but this is so ladylike, it would set you apart

Beth, have you checked out ebags.com? When I need a specific "carrier" of some
sort, I usually check there first. Even if I don't buy from them, they have a
large enough inventory that it gives me some idea of what I might want to look
for in the brick and mortars. Plus they have customer reviews of the products,
which is really helpful!
FWIW, I'm seeing some really nice large structured totes out in the stores (like
TJ Maxx and places like that) right now. They're stylish like a purse but are
large enough to fit a lot of the supplies you're talking about. Of course, if
you'll need to carry a locked file carrier of some sort, you'll probably still
end up with two things to carry, but that's better than three!

I may just have to get a job so I can buy it.

I second both suggestions. I have been nothing but elated with my purchases
from eBags, both in regards to customer service and the product itself.
I've also seen recently tons of nice, very reasonably priced (cheap) bags at
TJMaxx, Ross, Marshall's, etc. I would get a briefcase in addition to a
small purse for essentials, like another poster suggested, to slip into the
briefcase so you don't have to juggle so many different bags.
Overstock.com, smartbargains.com, and ebay are also all good places to
check.. you can sometimes find really great steals!
HTH,
Jennifer

Thanks for the suggestions (and please keep them coming!)
I like the idea of a small purse tucked into a larger carrier. I especially
like the suggestions for TJMaxx and ebags. Human services workers don't
make the big bucks to afford expensive items hehe.

You could always buy it to periodically rotate your money from bank to
bank. <grin/duck>

That or I could take my cash in it when I don't want to use the CC and I
plan on a big shopping trip. ;–)

Try keeping the office supplies in a black mesh makeup bag. They're
professional looking and see–through so you can easily get at what you want.
Do you have to use a large calendar book or can you use a PDA?
Instead of a locked box, how about a briefcase that locks?

Beth, sounds like a Bueno toteables would be up your alley. They're fun,
cute, different, and more importantly allow you to organize and carry a lot
of stuff. I often take a Bueno to business meeitngs.
Check Ebay or some stores here carry them.

Great idea on the makeup bag!
I don't "have" to use a written calendar, but that's what was provided. My
husband is considering refurbing his old IPaq for me (needs a new battery
and a stylus "lock" to keep it from popping up). Same with the locked box –
the company is providing some type of a secure portable thing for files,
along with locking filing cabinets for home. I'm not sure exactly what type
of thing they're planning to get for all of us, just that it needs to be
done so we are HIPAA compliant.
