Hair coloring technique: Slicing?

"melizabeth" <chris1...@btopenworld.com>
Has anyone heard of this technique and had it done? I got my hair cut today
and the gentleman was talking about "slicing" (I asked him to repeat it,
because I thought I heard it wrong), and he said it was a combination of 3–5
colors instead of just one or two.
Any input?

slicing means taking a small subsection of hair and not weaving
thru it and putting the colour/bleach on it (with a foil).
that's the definition that i've heard. there are obviously other
ones.

I agree with David......slicing to a colorist is a technique of not weaving
but taking very small slices of hair...usually so small/thin you can see
right through them........it looks more natural as an end result....it has
nothing to do with the number of colors used.......or the particular
product.........

Thank you so much for all of your input! Your descriptions helped me out.
It sounds like something I might want to try.

I use it all the time, with three colours. One is a very light brown,
then a golden blonde and then a very light blonde. It looks really
nice and because the three colours are not too far apart, quite
natural. In winter we increase the amount of brown and decrease the
very light blonde and in summer we increase the blondes and decrease
the brown.
