Only one thing! What is it?
The thing that makes me presentable and prevents me from wanting to hide
under a rock is Neutrogena Acne wash (the orange stuff) on
face/chest/shoulders. If I don't use this for a couple days in a row I
start breaking out like you wouldn't believe. :( It's the one non–color
thing I use that definitely results in a before/after picture.

Consistency.
I've adopted a number of new beauty routines for hair, skincare,
makeup, bath and body, and my being consistent has produced good
results. What helps me is being organized about it: I mark on a
calendar whenever I do my manicure/pedicure/facial, when I need to get
my hair done, etc. Makes it easier to stay on track.

Get enough sleep.
I was going to say, more broadly, "Take care of myself" –– enough sleep,
no smoking, good food, no sugar, mucho vitamins, etc, etc, etc.

Starting back up with an exercise program, both in house and at an exercise

Maintenance.
Although I'm sometimes embarassed and apologetic about the time I spend on
personal grooming and on my wardrobe, I enjoy it. It doesn't take as much time
as people think.

Where do you get the self–control to do it? Did you go through a process to
determine what you are allergic to and how did you do it?

I take Omega–3 vitamins pretty much every day. Not only is it good for
skin/hair/nails, but it's one of the best vitamins you can take for your
overall health.

I hate to break the rules and list 2, but it is a true tie. If you
had asked me a couple months ago, I would have said diligent skincare
(never going to bed w/ makeup on, finally finding a regime that works
and using it religiously, self–facials (steam, exfoliate, mask, toner,
moisturizer) once a week.) But since I quit smoking a few weeks ago,
that is the other thing that has been best for my appearance...there
is a difference already – my skin glows. A dermatologist told me a
couple years ago that this would happen...but I regretfully didn't
take it to heart. I think it has something to do with the skin being
able to get more oxygen or something. Not to mention the wrinkles
I'll save (if it's not too late!) Don't mean to preach to any
smokers...I know from experience that you have to be truly ready and
want it really bad for it to work...but on top of all the obvious
major health benefits (it's so wierd...when I work out on the
eliptical trainer, my speed is faster now and I'm not consciously
trying to go faster) quitting does improve your appearance. I kid
not. Most brocures about quitting suggest making a list of Pro's of
quitting for yourself as motivation...add better skin to the list.
Plus you can use the money you save on fun beauty stuff!
The one drawback...the weight gain. But I think my increased cardio
capacity will help even it out relatively quickly.

Congratulations and good for you. Studies show the weight gain is due to
you being able to absorb your nutrients better and them not just going
through your body quicker. In a way, smoking works a bit like a laxative in
that you don't absorb the nutrients as well and the food goes through the
body quicker. But what it means of course is that you will be healthier
because of your lungs and also because you are now getting more nutrients.
