. . . is that you find something you like, a tee shirt, say, or
in my case linen capris (which were a fairly good little knockoff
of the EF ones and very very cheap) and then you go back
2 weeks later AND
nada.
Don't have them anymore. Not anywhere.
I've never seen a store turn over inventory more quickly than
Old Navy.
I guess the secret is if you like something buy multiples.

That's part of the marketing behind the store. The merchandise is
constantly on the move. You need to shop
there often if you think there's something you like. Claire has mentioned
items she bought and if I was two
weeks slow, I wouldn't see them. The clerk would say they were in the store
earlier in the month etc.
Where do Old Navy clothes go though?

To their website, I think. Sometimes if I don't buy enough of something
when I'm shopping in the store, I can find it on clearance on their website
a few weeks later.

Check the web site in a week or two. AJ didn't you buy the pair you liked

They may go to another store and then someplace else before they hit the

Agreed, great idea for them to hit maternity–– quality doesn't matter
much when you're not going to keep the stuff for next year anyway, and
there's not much competition in the affordable–and–not–horrible
maternity market. Even better if they carry the full range of sizes,
since plus size maternity is evidently so hard to find.

I'm a pretty big fan of the Old Navy website. (Check currentcodes.com and
you can usually get a deal on shipping. Also, an Old Navy charge card gets
deals, kickbacks. etc.) It's usually easier for me to find what I'm looking
for on their website than picking through an often–chaotic, messy store.
Everything comes neatly packaged and in pristine condition, again in
contrast to the offerings at my local Old Navy. BTW, their "just bottoms"
cotton knit p.j. pants are my absolute favorites.

For those in SF, the basement of their flagship store on Market St
would be a good place to check. I don't think their outlet stores are
much help unless you want to wait a whole year for an item.
Celia
AFAICT there are only a few "staples" that they carry, but even those aren't
permanent. Yes, they turn their inventory so fast. (I wonder who is the
fastest in that category.) I completely missed out on the capri yoga pants
(wah wah) because I didn't go for them when I saw them. I went back and
grabbed a pair of reg length "just in case" they stop making them soon.
Luckily I've been able to buy their thin cotton knit lounge pants for over a
year because I loooove them. Must get a third.
I occasionally hit the Market St basement but unfortunately even that is an
unreliable source except for right after huge markdowns and even then they
don't always have the stuff I've seen at other ON markdown sections. In
addition to checking the website, calling around to stores might be a good
idea.
Noticed recently that ON is carring a maternity line. I haven't checked it
out but it seems like an excellent idea for them if they do it right!

You sure know a lot about Canada Charlie. I don't
think Target has made it up here (yet) but there
there are 3 Walmarts in Regina. When I got to
that type of store, I lean to Zellers...

I used to shop at an outlet mall that had two Gap outlets and I'd
sometimes see Old Navy clothing there. I don't know if Old Navy has
its own outlets, though. The Gap outlets were great–– I'd find khakis
in long (my primary reason for going there) and would pay way, way
less than what they cost in the store. I've never called an outlet to
check on stock but probably they'd tell you if there were ON clothes
in the store.
My husband and I love Old Navy for basic clothing–– his favorites are
the short sleeve shirts with pockets and I like the men's ringer
t–shirts (regular shirts trimmed with a contrasting color).

There is a store called "Target" in Australia, but that's because two
store chains picked the same name at about the same time each without
being aware of the other.
Huh, I always assumed they were the same store... Check out the Australia
Target website...
http://www.target.com.au/html/homepage/home.htm
Here's the answer straight from their website...
Is Target Australia connected with Target USA?
No, Target Australia is part of the Coles Myer corporation and has no
relationship with Target USA.<<
I'm not seeing much of a difference in terms of brand identity!

So how did they work out a truce? Wouldn't both using the same name
raise some eyebrows?
Sounds like a Canadian Target given that they use the term "one of
Canada's most progressive and successful retailers" in their corporate
description.
Of course, you do know where you go for Mossimo? Zellers in Canada and
Target in the USA.

In that case, it's because I know about Target. (When they mention

AJ, if it makes you feel any better, I bought a pair of those linen
capris and after maybe ten washings they look awful. They looked nice
when I bought them, but they seem to have lost their shape and now
they look loose and dowdy on me. They've become my "around the house"
pants. You're better off not having purchased them.
Hope that helps a little,
