call it. took top layer of skin off and scab formed.
I haven't gotten any skin ripped off but have had similar ouch–factors
from epilating my armpits with the Emjoi. I'm having less trouble with the
Optima than I had with the regular Gently Gold version but I still have to
grab a door jam with my hand and stretch my arm out as much as possible to
keep the skin in my armpit taut and to keep it from being grabbed.I'm
never quite sure what to do once the thing jams with skin stuck in it so I
just yank it away as quickly as possible and clench my teeth :) Once it's
all over with, I think it's worth it to not have to shave my pits every
other day or so.

Thanks for telling us this. I ordered one, didn't get it delivered Friday
because I wasn't here, but it's coming tomorrow.

I got mine today, the Optima. I was fearing it would really hurt, but what
I'd compare it to is rubbing an Emory board against your leg. No big deal
really, but I did it just on my leg and not behind the knee or in any
sensitive areas, such as under the arm.

Yeeeouch!!! I can't even think of using an epilator on my underarms. I
barely touched it to the skin once and I couldn't handle the pain.
You're a gnarly, but hairless, woman, Stacy!
Thanks for the warning both of you. I've been using Emjois for years
and it never occurred to me that i could get pinched by it.

Some places sting a little bit at first but you get used to it. I don't
even notice it anymore. You'll love the Optima.

I do so far. I wasn't sure if it was working, the feeling was so mild, but
there was evidence on the machine itself. I am really glad I ordered it.

The initial underarm hair removal will literally bring tears to your eyes,
but if you keep
up with it and do it regularly, it gets much better.
Trust me on this...the pain is worth it in the end.

I've used an epilator on my underarms for years, and I used to tweeze before
that. I will say that I don't get that grey look under my arms, and the hair is
very very fine.
Is it painful? Nope, not unless I don't stretch the skin .

any tips to make it a little less painful,
1) Keep skin taut
2) Repeated use – your skin will get used to it – by the 2nd or 3rd time
you use it, you'll hardly notice it.

I use a light coating of powder on underarms before using my Emjoi. Makes
things much easier and less of a chance to pinch, which is what mine does
sometimes. A real ouchee! BTW any kind of bath powder will work. Wash it off
before applying deodorant.

No fine hair here, except for what's on my head. ;–p
It never occurred to me to try the ice cube trick, and now that I think
about it,
it might make the 'pulling' even worse because your skin would be damp.
I've never gotten my skin caught in it, thank goodness.

Nope, I'm the exact opposite and yes, when I first used it there was some
blood. Now it's blood–free and painless. Good luck!

i had a completely different experience. i have the emjoi gently
gold caress. didn't have serious pain when using. and my legs were
smooth for days. loved it. until i realized i had super–stubborn
ingrown hairs. lots of them. i was exfolitating regularly and using
AHA lotion on the legs. but they were still there. so i decided to
stop using the emjoi and stop shaving, exfoliate my legs and apply AHA daily.
after 2–3 months, still no progress. my derm seemed impressed at how
strongly impacted these hairs were. i am on about month 3 of a twice daily
regimen of carmol 40 with no shaving, and about 75% of them have healed.
i will never wax or epilate again. and maybe by next summer my legs
will look normal again. (i used to have very pretty legs. this summer
has been awful, wearing only capris and long skirts...) BTW, i never
ever had a problem with ingrowns in all the years i shaved. and my
derm mentioned when she gets these types of cases, the majority are caused
by epilating, with a few from waxing.

That's interesting. I guess since I just got mine, I will watch for this.
