drugstore lipgloss. If you think you are addicted go through all your
makeup
and clean its containers, organize it, and keep a mental image of all the
colors so next time you are at a dept store you may realize that you
probably
already have the shade of the moment in your collection.

One who wears it 24 hours a day?
One who gets into debt because she can't stop buying makeup she can't afford?

Or one who needs to and doesn't. I think some of these represent compulsive
shopping problems while others speak to a facial dysmorphic disorder. I can't
see how buying three Maybelling Pur blushes at a close–out place is comparable
to going on a bender and passing out. It bothers me that the word addiction is
thrown around so casually.

I agree. I stocked up on Maybelline mascara at Walgreens last week because
I purchased it with
coupons for $2 a tube. I always define addiction as being out of control.
It would be buying a slew
of products just because they were hard to find or a good buy but which I
never intended to use.
Obviously it would also mean spending beyond what I good afford.

"Mad for Makeup" an essay by Daphne Merkin on page 120 of the August Allure
This essay is quite long and the author talks about many aspects of makeup
addiction. "For some
people, lip gloss is a talisman, a cosmetics counter is a shrine, and a
makeup artist is a demigod."
She mentions the person who seeks the perfect product and it is not even
using it but seeing it in the
package, knowing you have it and it's untouched" that makes it worth
seeking. Another comment
from the article is "My friend has shades of brown eye shadows so calibrated
they might have induced
Picasso to a brown period.
I just bought the BB nude palette and I have a palette of Stila browns not
to mention my other browns.
She could have been talking about me.
This article brings up many ways that makeup is an addiction and is a great
read that should prompt a
good on topic discussion.
