Manhattan Fashionistas – Open Toe Shoes, Or Not?

I have meetings in NYC next week with cosmetic companies and am dreading
the thought of wearing hose and heels. The weather forecast so far says
hot & humid. I plan to wear a tea–length skirt. Do I have to bite the
bullet and wear hose & heels or can I go bare legged with open toe
mules? sandals? I have *no tan* if that matters. Please advise. I would
wear my open toe platform mules (Yes Lisa, the very same ones that I
wore while trudging all over Manhattan, Hong Kong and Shenzhen) but
don't know if they scream "out!" They are several years old but sooo
comfy. TIA.

SK,
Since cosmetic companies understand fashion, I would consider it acceptable for
you to go without stockings on a hot summer day in NYC. Wearing hose is
currently not fashionable or necessary, imho.
Regarding the white legs – I might suggest a touch of self–tanner unless you
end up with white arms and brown legs, lol.
Maybe you need to go shoe shopping!

Oh I do believe shoe shopping is in my immediate future! And self–tanner. Are
platform mules OUT (I like height but will not sacrifice my feet for fashion)?
Maybe slides, not mules? I do have an ab fab pedicure...

I don't think platform mules are out at all, though I think they should be a
slanted platform rather than a flat one – does that make sense?
My favorite comfortable, yet fashionable shoe of the season is a kitten heeled
strappy little mule/sandal with a leather flower on the straps. I bought them
in brown and black, and wear them, comfortably, all day, almost every day, and
I do a LOT of running around. Maybe a kitten heel will work for your trip –
it's dressy enough for skirts and works with capris as well.
I KNEW you'd have a perfect pedicure, which is why I didn't even mention it!

Wear slacks and peds. Bearing in mind that I personally detest wearing hosiery,
I think going in barelegged is taking an unnecessary risk. Or wear a skirt,
put pantihose on for the meeting, and when you're done, go into a ladies room
someplace and take them off.
Well, I didn't dare go for open toe sandals or slides soI bought these in black.
They are they are amazingly comfortable. I'm wearing them now with peds and lots
of leather spray so they'll be like slippers come next week. And they'll be easy
to take off for airport security. Since my skirt is so long, I'm going bared
legged –– will start the self–tan ritual this evening.

I'm sure it will be fine. I hope the meetings go well.

PS– you might WANT hose (and a beefy jacket) to wear INSIDE any building....I
always change into hose and several sweaters in our building because it is
about 65F with the AC...colder in summer than in winter.

Same topic but a different question.
Manhattan fashionistas,
There's a great article in the most recent Vogue on Delman shoes. I
remember
wearing Delmans ages ago and they were soft, comfortable and not outrageous.
There are gorgeous ballet flats pictured and, I believe, they are at
Bergdorfs.
Have you seen these shoes, and if so, what is the price range. I'll be
shopping
in New York in mid September and would love a pair of Delmans. The brand
is nostalgic for me because it was started when my father had his shoe
company.

I have a bit of a hobby of seeing how many women I see wearing hose in
NYC in the summer. The answer is ... very few, mostly older women,
religious women, and a few women in conservative business suits.
Accordingly, IMHO, the *risk* in not wearing hose is very small.
Enjoy your meetings.

i agree...............i saw a women in sandals with stockings on yesterday, while out to lunch and she looked absolutely
ridiculous!

I have,
You've got to sing like you don't need the money,
Love like you'll never get hurt.
You've got to dance like no one is watching,
It's gotta come from the heart, if you want it to work.
& the attribution I have is Susannah Clark and Richard Leigh. Can you
verify or disprove?
