I received a call from CITIBANK today.....they have been getting a rash of
attempted authorizations from an online company called "Gamehouse".
Apparently the charge did not go through because they did not have the
correct expiration date.
If anyone has a Citibank visa or mastercard, their Fraud Early Warning
telephone number is 1.800.473.8016. They will close your account and
reissue the card. I would suggest giving them a call to see if your card
has been compromised.
Jean
Yikes! That kind of thing makes me so angry. It is such a nuisance having
to watch out for these idiots.

I believe this was the line item on my USAA Visa bill, for $300. I called
and
it turned out to be an online gambling site. I was credited the amount
and
issued a new card with no hassles.
Linda
How in the hell do they get your CC #? Some gambling thing has been sending
me spam with typical spam titles, such as "your account," and other crap
like that.

Some idiot online merchant sent me an email to let me know what I'd ordered
wasn't in stock, and included all my ordering information in the email,
including name, address, cc # and expiration date. I called her to let her
know what she'd done and she was absolutely clueless, didn't understand even
after I explained it to her, and never apologized. About a month later I had
the charge on my card. I've done a LOT of online purchasing for the past 7+
years and had never had any problems.

Name names so we don't go to the same idiot online merchant.
Complain to your card issuer ––– the Merchant Operating Regulations
require no transmission without SSL protection at a minimum.

Unfortunately I don't remember who the etailer was, but it was a ma and pa type
site and I'm not even sure what they were selling, although I think it was
shoes. I had saved off the email after contacting the person, then lost
everything as we had to reformat our hard drive. I had wanted to call her back
after I'd gotten the Visa charge to let her know the outcome, but even if I had
I think she was too dense to understand that it was a problem for me. This
woman was a real airhead!

It wasn't that site where you ordered the Cole Haan shoes a while back, was
it? I think they were Cole Haan.

No, I haven't bought any Cole Haan's in years. I bought 4–5 pairs of them
which ended up either in the trash (due to ripping because of poor workmanship)
or to charity (because they killed my feet), and although I like many of the
styles I quit buying Cole Haans. If I recall, I never received the merchandise
in that order because they weren't going to get any more of whatever it was
(still thinking shoes) in. So all I got out of that deal was a stolen credit
card! Replacing it was no problem, the inconvenience was that I had the number
memorized for online shopping, and I had to learn the new one.

It was a site you bought from and they were on Neiman's site, IIRC, less
expensive. Perhaps not CH, but I remember this.

Oh I know what you're talking about, but this happened way before that, about a
year ago. I don't think I ever ended up ordering those shoes we discussed on
here, I think they were Born Mary Janes but am not sure.

Maybe. I'm recalling light blue, but maybe not.

You mean you haven't been offered anything from beautiful downtown
Nigeria or pills to enhance your organ (not the musical type)?
If I don't get both those scams along with at least one virus, I feel
my day is unfulfilled. <grin/duck>

Oh sure, gotten all of those. I immediately report them and delete.
