I have meetings in NYC next week with cosmetic companies and am dreading
the thought of wearing hose and heels.
hosiery,
skirt,
room
I have a bit of a hobby of seeing how many women I see wearing hose in
NYC in the summer. The answer is ... very few, mostly older women,
religious women, and a few women in conservative business suits.
Accordingly, IMHO, the *risk* in not wearing hose is very small.
I disagreeI think the context Stephanie is in puts her in risk if she doesn't
wear hose. It's one thing not to wear hose to your regular job. But if you
are in the position of soliciting clients, or soliciting funding from someone
else to launch a project, I think it may be very risky indeed to go without
hose. In those situations I always dress in such a way that errs on the side
of conservatism, even if my audience is more relaxed and especially if I am not
sure how they will be attired. When you're asking someone to work with you
it's all about how you present yourself. IMO it's a job interview of sorts.
I may be in the minority and yes I take a conservative approach, but in cases
like this IMO a little discomfort is worth the offset of not being taken
seriously and losing a client/backer.
