KA Sensual Skin Enhancer or Illuminare concealer?

"Suzanne" <nosa...@yahoo.com>
Both are tempting me. Both recent and not–so–recent posts have convinced me
that I must try these. Words like seamless, real skin, flawless, covers
completely....
I guess I'll start with the Illuminare because I can get samples of it.
Who's tried both and which one did you prefer? Reasons?
TIA!

i prefer KA SSE over illuminare because 1. illuminare doesn't have the
best color selection and 2. it's slightly dry. the KA, although hard for
me to blend, isn't as dry.
you can get samples of KA from bendels.

Will they ship to Montreal?

Ack! Now, I've got a 3rd product that's a must! Darn you both.

I have tried 'em all, and love the KA. Prep your undereye with
moisturizer, pat in the TINIEST amount (literally, one tap into the
pot will do both your eyes)and you're gorgeous. Lasts all day, too.
The Illuminare was a bad color, and looked too obvious on. I couldn't
wear it as a foundation, either––any formula. I think this stuff was
the biggest beauty hype I've ever fallen for via this newsgroup. I
just could not make it work.
The Becca creased like a bastard. Two friends and I (all w/different
skin types) had Becca makeovers by their main MA, and we all looked
hideous when she was done. Huge creases within minutes, for all of us,
and this was with the myriad layers of products that company deems
necessary. It was all we could do crawl to the Linda Cantello counter
a few feet away and wipe the mess off.

I too, have tried them all, and on different people in the course of my
work. I like the Kevyn Aucoin pretty well, but find it is very similar
to Wm. Tuttle foundation (after the Tuttle foundation is smushed up and
softened, that is), but the color selection of the KA is better,
especially in the lighter shades. I also find that it seems to highlight
flaking, so the skin *must* be moisturized ahead of time. if you have
perfectly smooth skin but need color coverage, then this is the perfect
foundation for you. I, however, have little flaky dry areas and don't
need the coverage, so I prefer using just sunscreen and tiny amounts of
loose mineral foundation where needed/desired.
I also like Illuminare, but it caused horrible allergic reactions on
about 1% of the people on whom I've used it. also, the 5–color selection
does leave a lot to be desired, especially at the darker end of the
scale. I couldn't use it on anyone darker than, say, medium Hispanic. it
didn't work at all on Asian skintones. too much red for that. the
Portofino Porcelain color, however, is an almost exact match for my skin
color and I know how to work with this foundation (it must be spread
THINLY in order to look natural, as it's very pigmented, and it takes
some practice), so I like it for myself, but use it less and less on
others except those on whom I already know it works.
however...YMMV, and probably will. most people won't like the Joe
Blasco, Tuttle and RCMA foundations that I use about 90% of the time in
my work because of their versatility and portability (I need creams to
put in a palette so I can carry 60+ colors at a time). and I think I'm
one of the few people in here who loves Facefinity as well. and, again,
I'm probably in the minority in my love of Revlon skinlights Diffusing
Tint (on me, too glittery for photography), because it's almost invisible.

I adore the Illuminaire. The portofino porcelain is a perfect match for
me. I mix it with a dab of moisturizer (whatever is handy and cheap,
usually one of those 50,000 samples of Clinique DDML)to thin it out.
This makes it a bit less matte and very easy to spread using a sponge or
my fingers.

When I was in Las Vegas for the AF get–together I received a few Illuminaire
samples. Everyone I gave them to is still clamoring to get more. Sorry I
didn't sell them. I also loved the Illuminaire and when I run out of
everything else for certain I will order more.

if I were you, I would consider ordering more sooner rather than later.
I certainly hope Ruthie stays in business for a while, but I know she's
struggling to find her niche. of course, it makes sense that you like
it, since you know how to work with professional foundations that are
hightly pigmented. I can certainly attest to the fact that it looks
amazing on sonic5's skin, since I see her at least once a week!
all this posting about foundation 1) makes me happy that we're on topic
and 2) makes me want to dig around in my stash and play with some newer
and older stuff I have. I haven't been wearing foundation for a while;
tonight I wore Cinema Secrets wet/dry in Whisper Wheat (applied very
thinly with a damp sponge) and remembered what a wonderful match this is
for me, picked out by our very own foundation queen, o3. I also realized
how much better I photograph with foundation on, since someone snapped a
Polaroid of me and the person I was making up this evening. I look a LOT
better in pictures with foundation than I do without it.
and now of course I want to get Becca, but I'm quite honestly confused
by the enormous selection of colors and will have to wait until I can
play with them in person.

probably not. i don't think bendels ships outside the US. you could try
calling neiman marcus–beverly hills. i think that's the other store that
carries the line. they ship internationally, certainly to canada. if you
explain your situation, they might be willing to send you samples. i'd
pick some up for you, but i'm nowhere near a counter right now and won't
be until the holidays.
if you're interested in trying becca, you can definitely get samples by
emailing the contact address on the website
(http://www.beccacosmetics.com). they'll help you choose shades. they
ship anywhere in the world and are pretty generous with samples.

Thanks for the link. After reading Stellaglo's post about the Becca
foundation containing chemical sunscreens, I had to check the ingredients
list. Unfortunately, it contains benzophenone–3, so I will have to pass on
this one. Too bad, because the colour selection is awesome! Checked the
concealer ingredient list and don't see any suncreen ingredients. Might try
the concealer instead.

Did you get a chance to try it in a store, or did you just guess which one
would work best?
Jeanne
I was matched at Bendel's by the Kevyn Lady there, Margo. She put me
in the lightest shade (which she says she hardly ever does), and it
was a perfect match. I am pretty freakin' pale, though. I would go for
the lightest shade, if I were you. They do have a return policy, if it
doesn't work out. Also, while I'm at with the enabling ... try the KA
lipsticks! Very fabulous.

What do you like about the KA lipsticks? Are there any particular shades you'd
recommend?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've e–mailed the KA site to see if I can
purchase some samples of the lightest shades.
I wish they would put this line in the NM in Scottsdale!
The reviews on MUA are outstanding for this foundation.
