Bridal outfit question

poppi...@aol.combustible (Cassidy)
A dear friend has given me one of her cast–offs. It's a Chanel cocktail dress
from a few seasons ago (Spring 2002 or 2001). The idea was that I could wear it
at my reception or at the rehearsal dinner. But the moment I opened the box I
knew I wanted to wear it as my wedding dress.
We haven't worked out all the details but the wedding will be held in October
(in either Virginia or Saskatchewan), will be small (approx 40 guests – mostly
family), intimate and informal (but not too casual), and the service brief and
secular.
The dress is rose pink silk. The fitted top is satin with spaghetti straps. The
skirt is a cascade of chiffon ruffles that stops just below the knee (it's full
but not poufy). I feel it's a little too bare for a fall wedding. I thought I
might be able to wear it with a white mink jacket I inherited from a
grandmother. The jacket is not bulky. It's an evening jacket, very fitted and
light weight. It has long sleeves, a v–neck and fastens with one hidden
hook–and–eye clasp. It stops at the top of the hips and looks good over the
dress. I have a pair Blahnik nude suede high heels I could wear with the
outfit. I figure I can ditch the jacket for the reception.
Will this outfit work at my wedding? Or am I losing it?

IMO, and please salt it to taste, I think it sounds lovely and very much in
keeping in what what you "seem" like via your "what are you wearing today"
posts. You don't have to wear a white gown, despite what the wedding industry
dictates.

OT response here, but what language is this? One of my favorite authors has
given a prominent character this last name, and I didn't realize until this
moment that it might mean something.
Thanks!

If you love it wear it! It sounds very glamorous, my only question is
are the suede shoes too "heavy" for what sounds like a light weight
dress? The mink sounds wonderful all you need are some diamond clips
for the hair and I think you're set.
It's so wonderful you're doing what you want and not what fashion
dictates should be a wedding dress!
Lifetimes of happiness for you and your intended!

Your dress sounds absolutely beautiful and like Jjjjulie mentioned, so in
keeping with the
style you have as noted in your posts. This past weekend a friend shared
with us photos
of the wedding he recently attended in Conneticut. The first time bride's
dress, specifically
designed for her by Giorgio Armani, was a beautiful celadon green. Her beige
shawl was
custom made for her by Valentino. The wedding had 112 guests and from the
photos
and things my friend told me, it was absolutely beautiful. It will probably
be written up
in Bon Appetit and Gourmet later this year.
Congratulations to you and the lucky groom. You will look stunning.

I love the idea of the dress. I'm not convinced either way about the fur
jacket. (And I agree with whoever noted that October in Virginia will
probably be too warm for the fur. Actually, if you're inside, the fur
may be too warm no matter where you are.)
Congratulations.

Cassidy, since this is a secular service and small, and I assume it's
in the evening and indoors, I see no problem with your wearing the dress
alone for the wedding & then wearing the jacket as needed (getting
there, going away, if the reception's chilly, etc).
Lots of clothes people wear in the evening are seasonless
and I think the same rule would go here.
Sounds gorgeous! And congratulations on the forthcoming wedding.

I'd wear the mink.
Because it belonged to your *grandmother*.
That makes it extra–special for your special day. Congratulations, Cassidy!

The dress sounds heavenly – wear it in good health and happiness.
You might consider lighter shows, silk and suede may not work (not
having seen the shoes, this is just a guess).
If you end up in Virginia, you might find mink too warm – perhaps a silk
shawl with fringe? White or silver would be nice.
You are going to be a vision of loveliness!

The dress sounds amazing! Wear it in good health.
Perhaps you could find a lightweight shawl that is plain enough to not
detract from the dress––something rather like what a veil would be made of.
I think it is great that you have found something that is so unique––and
that you are secure enough to go for it vs. the traditional white dress.
It's *your* day and you will be making it all the more memorable by putting
your personal stamp on it. Have a great time.

Hi Cassidy, first of all congratulations! You should wear the dress if you
love it and it looks great on you. I think the light jacket might take the
attention away from the gown though...if you can find maybe a chiffon
shawl..or a light jacket made out of chiffon material it would match
perfect w/ you wedding gown. But then again, it's your special day, so do
what you want. Wishing you a happy marriage.

Well, first I'd like to thank everyone for their advice, good wishes and
congratulations.
Normally I'm fairly confident in my clothing choices, but I've never been a
bride before and it seems to have rattled me a little. That's why we're keeping
everything low–key.
As for my nude suede high heels, I should have mentioned they're strappy
sandals and the suede is very fine. So they're not too heavy for the dress.
I think the white mink is probably my biggest concern. I guess it would be too
rude to blast our guests with air conditioning just so that I can wear mink;)
For now I'll still plan on the mink, but start looking for a pretty shawl just
in case.
And Julie P., thanks, now that we've worked out the separate bathrooms and
closets, I'd love to live 100 years with him!
