A dear friend has given me one of her castoffs. It's a Chanel cocktail
dress
from a few seasons ago (Spring 2002 or 2001). The idea was that I could
wear it
at my reception or at the rehearsal dinner. But the moment I opened the
box I
knew I wanted to wear it as my wedding dress.
We haven't worked out all the details but the wedding will be held in
October
(in either Virginia or Saskatchewan), will be small (approx 40 guests
mostly
family), intimate and informal (but not too casual), and the service brief
and
secular.
The dress is rose pink silk. The fitted top is satin with spaghetti
straps. The
skirt is a cascade of chiffon ruffles that stops just below the knee (it's
full
but not poufy). I feel it's a little too bare for a fall wedding. I
thought I
might be able to wear it with a white mink jacket I inherited from a
grandmother. The jacket is not bulky. It's an evening jacket, very fitted
and
light weight. It has long sleeves, a vneck and fastens with one hidden
hookandeye clasp. It stops at the top of the hips and looks good over
the
dress. I have a pair Blahnik nude suede high heels I could wear with the
outfit. I figure I can ditch the jacket for the reception.
Will this outfit work at my wedding? Or am I losing it?

The dress sounds amazing! Wear it in good health.
Perhaps you could find a lightweight shawl that is plain enough to not
detract from the dresssomething rather like what a veil would be made of.
I think it is great that you have found something that is so uniqueand
that you are secure enough to go for it vs. the traditional white dress.
It's *your* day and you will be making it all the more memorable by putting
your personal stamp on it. Have a great time.
