tag heuer chronmeter tachmetre

deodi...@my–deja.com (deodiaus)
I bought a "Tag heuer chronmeter tachmetre" from a street vendor. I
wonder if it is counterfeit or hot? Aside from walking into a police
station, and asking, (probably get laughted out), how can I find out?
If it is hot, what should I do? This was not one of his displayed
watches, he pulled it out of his pocket when no one was around.
I could not find the exact same model on Tagheuer's site
(http://www.tagheuer.com), but found some that some were remarkably
close, (mine has a white background and no Kirium logo). Is this
because Tag–Heuer changes their models that often, or is it a
counterfeit?
I found one web site selling counterfeit's which were different
models, but had the TagHeuer emblem, but sold for $90, which is about
1/3 of what I paid.
I remember my wife was buying a Guicci bag on Canel Street in NYC.
She told the vendor that it did not have the Guicci label, (while
others in his collection did). He replied, give me 5 min, and I will
put on any label that you like!

As a rule, never question the authenticity of anything sold by a street
vendor, you won't like what you find.
Another rule: never buy anything for more than 20 bucks from a street
vendor, you won't like what you find.

What do you think ? New *genuine* Tag/Heuers are only sold by official
dealers (which BTW does NOT include Ebay).

Maybe.
how can I find out?
Get a watchmaker or jeweller to examine it, and they'll probably
laugh to.
If it is hot, what should I do? This was not one of his displayed

He most probably done that to make it look like you're getting something
special.

'Kirium' is on only a few models of their watches.

So you paid $270 for a well dodgy watch from a street–vendor ? Hmmmmmm..

Well that's Canal St for you.

I've heard of police road–blocks checking for illegal
drugs, booze, & seat belt use but NEVER THE
TEMPERATURE OF ONE'S WATCH !!!
Get a grip.

OK try and claim *official* warranty repair on a Tag–Heuer bought on Ebay,
or a grey–market one bought from some web–site.
BTW it's 'Nonsense'.

That wasn't what you said. You said genuine TAG Heuers weren't sold
anywhere but official dealers, which is complete and utter nonsense.

If its stolen, do I have to surrender it? Is the police going to try
to run a trace on the serial numbers? I don't mind surrendering it
per sa, but was wondering if that is the legal thing to do. I don't
want to surrender it only to have it wind up on a police auction or
something stupid like that. (Example of another stupid thing are lost
luggage auctions with some pretty valueable items (cameras), where a
simple inspection reveals the owner's identity, but the airline never
even bothered. Why the airline doesn't follow up, I'll never know,
but maybe the money that they paid the owner was more that the value
of the suitcase's contents).
I was watching an investigation channel documentary where a
[burgerized] women walks into a pawn shop (in a close–by
neighboorhood) and points out that the ring in the pawn's collection
"looks the same" as one that she has on one of her photos, shows the
police report (that is was stolen), and claims that it is hers. The
pawn broker agrees to "sell it back" to her at "his cost", e.g. not
the marked up price. I would think that the charge of the dealing in
stolen merchandise was enough of a lever [the owner had] to get the
pawn broker to relinquish ownership. At this point doesn't she have
the right to ask for it back without paying. I am not sure if the
jewerly was so unique that it was the women's and that the pawn broker
could not claim that his was another one made by the same
manufacturer.

Yes. But you almost certainly have a fake watch, not a stolen genuine one.

to run a trace on the serial numbers?
Why are you so wound up about this? If it so bothers you, go throw it
in the lake. You're out $270, and that hurts, but remembering the pain
might keep you from buying things that total strangers produce shiftily
from their pockets next time you walk down the street.

If it is stolen you are in luck and got a good deal. If it is fake,
which is more likely, you are out $170 since a fake one probably sells
for $100.
