can someone please explain to me why this piece of apparel was invented?
what exactly does one do with a swimmers jockstrap? are you supposed to
wear it under Speedos? don't Speedos have enough support already?

Some do, most don't. Have you ever dove off a 35' platform
with your nuts not secured properly? Not recommended.
