Men's Cosmetics

"Deedee_tv" <deedee...@hotmail.com>
Do any of you men use male cosmetics like:
http://www.studio5ive.com/index.htm
http://www.malespecies.com/malespecies/shop/home.asp
https://www.naturallyman.com/home.asp
http://www.menaji.com/
http://www.xcdskn.com/
I have been using XCD for a few weeks but have added light eye shadow and
liner as I feel just the base color alone leaves my face a bit stark. These
are all available for men and I think I look better with them. Maybe makeup
isn't just for women anymore.
Thoughts?

Yes,

All of the "Mens" stuff is way over priced, what cost $30 at one of these
places is likt $10 at the Drug or Department store.

Get a copy of "Men's Edge" – there's an on–going series of articles on the
subject.

The male cosmetics are overpriced. their makers prey on male
insecurity to just go to the drugstore and buy a basic brow gel
or bronzer. Kind of like the "mens hair color" is just the
women's hair color in different packaging.
Makeup is for anyone who wants to use it.

I can't believe I'm responding to this thread, with the direction it's
taken. I'll avoid all the issues of TV (transvestitism) and stick with the
issues I know: movies and TV (television). many male celebrities wear
makeup, even if it's just anti–shine or powder, in public, not just for
performances or photo shoots. I see that all the time. I also know a lot of
me who *aren't* performers of any type who wear anti–shine products –– I
know this because they're other movie crew members, and they sidle up to me
to discreetly ask me about these products and where to get them.

No offence but you obviously work in the film industry. Where do you come
from Holywood ? We're talking reality here not the movies and related
communities. Gel products, even skin care are common for men and I agree
some time in the future cosmetics may come back in, just like in the 80s.
However I doubt a substantial amount of men wear cosmetics as you described.
Although I am ready to be convinced your evidence is only anecdotal and
would benefit from someone with real stats to back it up.

Sounds like fighting words to me.
We're talking reality here not the movies and related

Any multibililion–dollar industry quialifies as part of reality,
unless the faces in question were made down on the Pixar Renderfarm.
However I doubt a substantial amount of men wear cosmetics as you

I think Clinique or some place like that SELLS men's make–up.
It's not nearly as extensive a line as they have for women, but
Clinique does indeed have products that would qualify as "men's
make–up."
No tax paying business in the US sells anything unless there's a
demand for it
I think that even applies for the ones who have cooked their books so
they don't pay taxes.
Endi...@gmail.com
Old topic, but I'd thought I'd get on track with the first message. I
didn't read many of the others.
I don't use any sort of "men's cosmetics" because I feel that they are
overrated. What's good enough for a woman should work for a man, unless
it is designed for a certain gender. I think that all cosmetics are
universal, but lean towards women more. That fact tries to establish
makeup as a gender–role (which I hate), but only if you overdo makeup.
Not everybody needs a made–up look, and although I agree the prices are
high, there are better alternatives. MAC Cosmetics looks really good.
Another point is that many professional makeup artists refer to makeup
as being an art form to have fun with and experiment with. You can't
tell me that's gender–based! It's also considered help, which the stuck
of kind of masculinity (spelling?) never wants, and I believe is
stupid. If it's there and will work for you, use it! And what about
male fashion and make–up artists? They can't all be gay, or messed up!
So I think all of this men's makeup stuff is stupid. Labeling is mens
makeup makes it as effective as labeling pens and pencils "her pencil"
and "his pencil".
"lgreene" <noth...@yahoo.com>
What does your diatribe have to do with the fact that my TV friend is quite
likely older than you...in that case YOU would resemble HIM, not the other
way around as you seem to believe.
Where do you get off jotting down that I have a preconceived reference about
men who wear makeup...it's not preconceived...my reference is reality. I
didn't conceive it...I have two male friends who wear makeup...they are TVs.
The other males I know, do not wear makeup on the street.
You do not know me. Please write your responses to me without presuming to
think that you do...or that you know anything about me...you don't.
I do, however, have a notion about you...that you a sad, sorry person, who
believes that writing tripe such as this. You have no idea what I think or
what I know.
From where is it that you make up this information...that Whites believe all
African Americans look alike? My ex– husband looked like him...may have
resembled others, as I resemble other White people. How dare you presume to
paint Whites, or any category with such a broad brush?
To what are you alluding when you say that makeup wearing has nothing to do
with transvetitism? I never said it did...if you were implying that. I
merely said that the ony 2 of my male friends who wear makeup are my TVs.
I would beg to differ that a substantial number of men wear makeup who are
not TVs or transexuals or drag performers or other theatrical performers.
Show me the numbers.
Oh, I won't be able to see them.
Don't EVER think that you can post your ramblings as gospel, and don't EVER
think that you have an inkling about me...you don't.
Your posts and picture have given me an inkling about you, and it isn't
pretty.

Hello,
as an ex–cosmetician/makeup artist (only for a brief period of time,
though), I have used Male Species' products. I ordered some online,
including; excalibur lipstick (fun, but I've only used it once), body
glitter, and a pressed powder, I think it was medium. The powder was
phenomenal...very natural looking, and lasted throughout the
day...eliminating the shine in my combination skin. I would recommend this
company to men looking for good, quality (but not cheap) makeup. They even
gave me a free concealer, which I use all the time...it's great! As a bonus,
since I was a makeup artist, they also threw in a free t–shirt and face
cloth.
That's my 2cents (CDN) people...
